SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A tour this weekend will give San Diegans a chance to see all of the options they have to make their homes more energy-efficient and climate-friendly.The San Diego Green Homes Tour features 14 houses, all with unique ways to go green."We have a variety of homes from luxury and do it yourself tactics that everyday people can employ," says tour Co-Chair Katie Teare. "We're hoping people that attend the tour can learn and be inspired to put some of these techniques into their own home."Among the options, a home that is entirely off-the-grid and run by solar power, a home built from straw bales, a home that turned the backyard pool into a pond, and several homes that are LEED-certified as among the most energy-efficient.RELATED: Photos of energy efficient homes in San Diego (Slide Show)"If you're going to be building a new house it just seems like the right thing to do," says Kristin Brinner, whose newly built Solana Beach home is part of the tour. "We have a daughter, and we're really concerned about climate change and the world she's coming into, so we want to do everything we can to minimize our impacts."Brinner's home features solar power, a grey-water system, and a driveway that percolates water and pushes it to their yard instead of into storm drains.She and her husband took the tour three years ago to get inspiration as they started to design their new home."It might cost a little more to buy a nicer system, but if you look at the cost over time, since they're so efficient, you get back a return on the money," says Brinners husband, Chris Novak.Bill Powers agrees. He set up his home with a fully self-contained solar power system in 2014. He says it's time that these kinds of renovations become the standard, not the exception."This isn't fringe stuff. This is something you can do if you'd like to do and give you the flexibility to protect your own home when the grid's not available," says Powers.The tour is on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets to tour the homes are for both days or for one day. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A woman was arrested Thursday on suspicion of running over and killing a man she had been arguing with at a Kearny Mesa parking lot. San Diego police said 33-year-old Latisha Ingram and an unidentified 25-year-old man were arguing in a parking lot in the 4600 block of Convoy Street at around 11:30 p.m. Thursday when the altercation escalated. Kiana Smith was in the middle of her shift at Rakiraki ramen restaurant when she heard the noise outside. Ingram was belligerent, Smith said, adding she had been turned away by a bartender at O’Brien’s. "She turned her down because she was way too drunk, then she made her way this way, and a server saw her before I did, saying she was way too drunk, she couldn't even walk." Smith told 10News the male victim, who had been waiting on a table with his girlfriend, was trying to stop Ingram from driving. "It looked like she was trying to get in her car, but she was obviously way too drunk to drive, so the guy was trying to stop her from driving,” said Smith. According to police, Ingram then drove away while the man was holding onto her car. Police said Ingram drove out of the parking lot and turned southbound onto Convoy Street when the man let go and was allegedly run over. "He ended up on the hood, and she made the right turn, and he completely flew off," said Smith.The man was rushed to the hospital, where he died from his injuries, police said. 10News learned Ingram returned to the area about 30 minutes later and was arrested without incident. Ingram was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and felony DUI. 10News learned she has a prior DUI charge from 2011. Smith said returning to work Friday was tough. 1702

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A search was underway Friday for eight service members who disappeared in the waters off San Clemente Island after a training exercise involving an amphibious assault vehicle (AAV).One Marine died following the training accident and two were in critical condition at a hospital.The accident is the third time in less than 10 years that someone has been injured or died in an AAV during training. Colonel with a background in intelligence and amphibious reconnaissance, says one of the most difficult operations in the military is amphibious operations."There is an inherent danger because every once in a while those things will take on water and if they do you've got a lot of marines trapped in a vehicle and it's going to be very difficult to get everyone out safely," Kempfer said.In 2017, 15 Marines were injured during a training exercise when an AAV caught fire. In 2011, a Marine was killed when an AAV sank off the coast near Camp Pendleton."It does happen, that when you go into the water things will leak. There's hatches all over the vehicle on top, in back the crew has hatches," Kempfer says.Injuries during training exercises aren't specific to amphibious assault vehicles. In 2015, one Marine was killed and 18 others were injured in a single-vehicle rollover crash.Kemper says they are horrific events when they happen."We train like we fight an obviously like its very nature the armed forces is a very dangerous business that's what we do," said Kemper. 1721

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego Police officer is showing his gratitude this holiday season after an incredible display of heroism.It was at the end of his graveyard shift when he heard panic over the scanner."It's moving pretty quick, ooohh standby. It went over the… it went over the cliff. I was not in pursuit. He says adrenaline, police training, but mostly his father-instinct kicked in."I had a two-year-old daughter at home, so when I'm looking in the water, it's her who is floating in the water," Wiese said. His brave actions have since been recognized many times. He was on his way to get lunch with his family when he heard an active shooter call on the scanner. Moments later, he spotted the suspect. Without backup, he convinced the Poway Synagogue shooter to surrender. Officer Wiese took him into custody.Wiese says his competitive spirit motivates him to be a better version of himself every day, to show resilience and strength for his community."If you feel like you're going to win, then incidents like this, like at Sunset Cliffs, 'I'm going to win this incident. I'm going to save these girls in this man.' At the synagogue, 'I'm going to win. I'm going to go home to my family, and he is going to go to jail. and the community is going to be safe.'" SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — An Ocean Beach man was injured after two men stormed his home, beat him, and robbed him.Police say the 34-year-old victim was at his home on Cape May Ave. with a woman, possibly an ex-girlfriend, when there was a knock at the door at about 10 p.m.The woman answered the door and two men forced their way inside, one wielding an expandable baton and the other with a knife, police said.A struggle began between the victim and two suspects and the two men beat the victim several times, before ordering him to open a safe.After the suspect was unable to open the safe, the suspects rummaged through the home and stole several items, including credit cards. The two men then fled.The woman fled shortly after as well.The victim was treated at a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries.Police described the suspect with a baton as a 20- to 25-year-old white male, 5-foot 10-inches, with thin build. He was wearing dark clothing and may have had his face painted black, police added. The man with the knife was described as a 25- to 30-year-old Hispanic man, 6-feet tall, weighing about 220 pounds, and wearing a black sweatshirt and jeans.
