Trump subsequently said he would not participate, and the debate was later canceled.Upon learning that Trump would not participate in a virtual debate, the Biden campaign reached an agreement with ABC News to hold its own town hall. The Trump campaign then struck a deal with NBC News on Wednesday to hold its own town hall event at the same time.In his town hall event, Trump often sparred with moderator Savannah Gutherie. At one point, Trump refused to denounce the QAnon conspiracy — whose followers have been linked to violent acts in the past.Trump repeatedly said he "didn't know" about the conspiracy theory, despite saying he "appreciates" the support its followers give him earlier this summer.During his event, Biden said he's "not a fan" but chose not to rule out "packing" the Supreme Court — the Constitutional but precedent-breaking act of adding more justices to the high court to balance the high court's political influence."I'm open to considering what happens from that point on (Judge Amy Coney Barrett's confirmation vote)," Biden said. 1933

A man is hospitalized, but expected to survive, after his girlfriend struck him with her car following a domestic argument, according to police in Port St. Lucie, Florida.The incident happened in the 1900 block of W. Dunbrooke Circle.Police said the man got out of the car and began walking down the street and the woman then dropped off her baby at their house, drove back to where the man was walking and hit him.Video posted by police shows crime scene tape around a car which appears to have a big dent in the hood and a shattered windshield.The man, described as the woman's 24-year-old live-in boyfriend, was airlifted to a hospital with head trauma.  He was undergoing surgery late Wednesday afternoon.Police did not identify either person but said the investigation continues. “It sounded like a car hitting a shopping cart," said Lance Chmura who lives just across the street from the crash scene. He was making breakfast around 9 a.m. when he heard the impact and ran out to help.“I went down, grabbed his hand and stabilized him because he was starting to thrash around a bit," said Chmura.The impact of the crash was so intense it sent the man flying 35 yards down the street.“She (the girlfriend) then left the scene, drove back home.  Her relative got in car and came back to the scene," said Master Sgt. Frank Sabol with Port St. Lucie Police.The victim’s grandmother would not reveal what the girlfriend said to her immediately after the crash, but said the couple had a good relationship and had just moved down here last month. She said she thinks this was an accident.“I think they were just playing around and didn’t realize the severity of it," said the grandmother.“The initial investigation determines she was on the wrong side of the road when he was struck," added Sgt. She says former track coach Craig Carter choked her and threatened to slash her with a box cutter when she tried to end a two-year sexual relationship.In opening statements, prosecutor Jonathan Mosher read the jury a series of texts between Gibson and Carter where he became more and more threatening as she said she planned to leave Tucson after graduating.She went to his office in McKale Center, the university's basketball arena and training center. That's where Carter allegedly choked her and threatened to slash her with a box cutter.Cater confessed to a University of Arizona Police officer. Carter's attorney, Dan Cooper, read the jury many of the same texts but said they show Carter's attack was the result of a momentary loss of control and was not the sort of deliberate attack required for a conviction.Prosecutors expect a short trial.The rest of their witness list only includes two police officers and a friend of Baillie Gibson. 1144

A majority of the House of Representatives is on record supporting another billion to help airlines pay their workers through next March. The goal is prevent large-scale layoffs in October, when an earlier round of federal aid runs out. Airlines are staggering under a massive drop in air travel caused by the coronavirus pandemic. On Monday, 195 Democrats and 28 Republicans endorsed more payroll aid for the industry. But the fate of the proposal is unclear.
