Tropical Storm Isaias spawned tornadoes and dumped rain along the U.S. East Coast on Tuesday after making landfall as a hurricane in North Carolina, where it smashed boats together and caused floods and fires that displaced dozens of people. At least four people are now dead because of Isaias. Late Tuesday, the National Hurricane Center said that Isaias has officially lost its tropical storm status as it exited the United States and entered Canada. Two people died when Isaias spun off a tornado that struck a North Carolina mobile home park. Authorities said two others were killed by falling trees toppled by the storm in Maryland and New York City.More than 18 hours after coming ashore, Isaias still had sustained top winds of 65 mph (105 kph) at 5 p.m. EDT Tuesday. The storm's center was about 20 miles (35 kilometers) west of Albany, New York.As Isaias sped northward at 40 mph (56 kph), the National Hurricane Center warned of flash flood threats in the New York's Hudson River Valley and potential for minor to moderate river flooding elsewhere in the mid-Atlantic region. Two people died after a tornado demolished several mobile homes in Windsor, North Carolina. Emergency responders finished searching the wreckage Tuesday afternoon. They found no other casualties, and several people initially feared missing had all been accounted for, said Ron Wesson, chairman of the Bertie County Board of Commissioners. He said about 12 people were hospitalized.North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper added during his appearance on Good Morning America that about 355,000 people in North Carolina are without power. 1619

Trudging forward in the sweltering sun, thousands of migrants left the Mexican city of Tapachula on Monday and continued their trek toward the U.S. border. There seemed to be little organization as the migrants streamed north -- and plenty of peril.Cars whizzed by long lines of people walking on a highway. One man fell hard from the back of a flatbed. A group of migrants said they had witnessed a child run over by a truck.Scenes from the 2,000-mile journey thousands are making to get to the U.S. borderMexican and Honduran authorities confirmed Monday that a 25-year-old Honduran national participating in the caravan had died."I deeply lament the death of a 25-year-old Honduran man, who was participating in the migrant caravan. He lost his life when he fell off a trailer that was moving," Mexico's Interior Secretary Alfonso Navarrete Prida tweeted. Another Honduran national was confirmed dead Saturday, when he fell off a pick-up truck. On Monday, the majority of migrants made their way on foot. But some also flagged down cars and trucks passing by and piled onto any vehicle that would take them. The highway behind the passing migrants was littered with plastic bottles, juice boxes and Styrofoam plates, resembling the scene of a marathon that has just ended. But for this group -- which U.N. officials estimate numbers more than 7,000 -- the marathon is far from over. 1389

Tyler Walker is a self-described people person, which is a good thing because he spends most days working one-on-one taking pictures, specifically headshots, of people.“For me, headshots are a way to get people confidence, show them their value. I love doing that one-on-one,” he said.Walker runs KC PRO Headshots out of a studio in the West Bottoms neighborhood of Kansas City, Missouri.Wednesday may be one of the busiest days in his studio’s history. He hopes to take headshots of 50 different people in one day and he’s doing it all for free.Walker and a photographer in Olathe, Kansas, are part of the 10,000 Headshots Project. Hundreds of photographers across the United States are donating their time Wednesday in order to take headshots of 10,000 people who lost their jobs due to COVID-19 and are looking for a new one.“It’s good to know that I’m doing something that made a real difference in a person’s life,” Walker said. The work-based social media site LinkedIn said profiles with professional headshots get 14 times the number of views compared to profiles without a picture.Walker said a good headshot is helpful in any job application. As a people person, he knows people are struggling because of the coronavirus. He’s happy to be a part of a solution and give people a reason to smile.“Giving someone a leg up to have a little bit more hope in trying to find a good job that will get them back on their feet, hopefully, I do my part to reduce a little bit of the anxiety and fear in the world right now,” he explained. For information on how to sign up for a headshot through the 10,000 Headshots Project, visit the project website.KSHB's Charlie Keegan first reported this story. 1704

Two medical facilities have advised the state of Louisiana that they are laying off more than 250 employees because of damage sustained during Hurricane Laura.WARN notices, which are required when a certain number or percentage of employees are to lose their jobs, were sent to the state by the Lake Charles Memorial Health System and Oceans Behavioral Hospital of Lake Charles.LCMHS has laid off 205 employees, and Oceans has laid off about 50, according to their WARN letters to the state."Lake Charles Memorial Health System will experience a reduction in its workforce, and a number of employees of the Moss Memorial Campus, support services and the Archer Campus will experience layoffs, as a result of damage sustained from Hurricane Laura," the September 28 WARN letter states. "It is with regret that I must report to you that the company has decided to reduce its operations at Lake Charles Memorial Health System. As a result, we anticipate that we will permanently lay off approximately 205 employees on today."The company's website indicates that many facilities are now open for business. You can read the latest here.Oceans, which is located on in Lake Charles, has extensive damage from the storm, the WARN letter states.
