OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) — Outside the Star Theatre in Oceanside is a recently completed mural designed exclusively for the space and ushering in a wave of public art. "We want to create a place where people can feel welcome," said Gumaro Escarcega with Main Street Oceanside, the group that started the project called "Art that Excites."Their goal is to fund 10 new murals at places all over downtown Oceanside. (KGTV) -- North County residents are frustrated over a rise in the number of homeless people in their community and Oceanside’s police department is reaching out.A team is working to get homeless people help. The team works to build trust among their homeless clients in hopes the trust will lead to them accepting help.Their client Joel relapsed after nine months. He wants help but can’t get a prescription after losing his ID. They help the most vulnerable, those with serious mental illness and other substance abuse issues with barriers to getting care.RELATED: Spring Valley residents upset over homeless population at popular parkThe HOT team gets help from Interfaith Social Worker Curtis Torres, who goes out with officers every day. Thanks to recent city funding, a second social worker was hired to the team.A separate team works to tackle homeless encampments in the riverbed. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- North County residents joined our 10News team as we marched for healthy babies in the annual March of Dimes March for Babies. Our 10News evening anchor Steve Atkinson emceed the event. The money raised during the walk goes to research to find cures for birth defects and to help find a way end premature births. The goal is to make sure that moms and babies have the best possible care to be healthy. The North County walk raised over ,000. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a missing 14-year-old girl who disappeared from Oceanside. Police said Wednesday that Eesa Cullors was last seen in the area of Center Avenue and Division Street.She is described as having curly hair, brown eyes and was wearing a black hoodie with “VS” on the front and black leggings. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call the Oceanside Police Department at 760-435-4900. 456
