But it's not personal, it's just business," Christopher says.Christopher started a GoFundMe to help with legal fees and is asking his customers to contact the city for help. He's hopeful he can still write a happy ending to this chapter of his life."We're not being unreasonable," Christopher said. "I'm just trying to get a compromise, a resolution for time so that I can relocate or get out without going, without maxing out my credit cards and going bankrupt or possibly homeless and bankrupt." 1568

Financially, it’s also taken a disproportionate toll.Ozzy Gamez’s neighborhood storefront looks a lot like an indoor jungle.“Our main focus has been indoor houseplants, tropical cacti, anything weird and exotic, strange,” said Gamez.Co-owned by his long-time friend and business partner Juan Quezada, they own "The Plant Shop."“It feels good to come into work and just put my hands on some soil and just kind of bond with people over something that's very natural, very organic,” said Quezada.For many in the Latino community, a connection to caring and nurturing plants is intertwined with family and culture. Gamez grew up in Belize, surrounded by tropical plants.“When I was growing up, it was kind of all around,” said Gamez. “My grandfather would plant things and grow things, whether it was for the animals he was raising or whether it's for us.”“I am Mexican, so I think that in my culture, it plays a big role,” said Quezada. “My mother always used plants for remedies, even as small as like aloes. I had a little cut, she always used that.”According to the Pew Research Center, the pandemic has hit Latinos especially hard. About 6 in 10 Latinos, 59%, in May said they live in households that have experienced job losses or pay cuts due to the coronavirus outbreak.Many have found solace during the pandemic in reconnecting with plants, returning to their roots.“You start thinking about where you came from and thinking about your ancestors,” said Gamez. “Not only think about them, but the places that were meant for me and I start thinking that kind of links it all. CALEXICO, Calif. (AP) — Authorities are investigating the death of a man who was hit by a vehicle driven by a U.S. Border Patrol agent near the U.S.-Mexico border. U.S. Customs and Border Protection says the incident happened about 8:40 p.m. Friday when the agent was driving to a spot along the border to investigate reports of people illegally crossing it. The agent’s vehicle hit a man who was lying in the road. The agent immediately rendered aid to the man until emergency medical services arrived. The agency says the man was first taken to a nearby hospital and then airlifted to a trauma center in Palm Springs, where he died. 642

Central Illinois is coping with damages and injuries after a blitz of tornadoes Saturday, when 22 twisters were reported to the National Weather Service.Hardest hit was the town of Taylorviille, southeast of Springfield, where storm winds wrecked houses, downed power lines, pulled trees up by the roots, and left an unknown number of people injured.It "feels like I woke up to a nightmare," one man in Taylorville, who has lived there since the 1960s, told CNN affiliate WCIA.Taylorville Fire Department Chief Mike Crews said at a press conference no one was killed, and he couldn't comment on the number of injured."There were several people who were initially trapped in their homes due to damage initially but were rescued," Crews said. 748

Conboy says the unburned area has been coated with his product - called the Mighty Fire Breaker.“We have to do more than what we're doing,” conboy says. “We can't just add more firefighters to these type of fires, because there's just too much fuel, and too many houses in wildland territories.”Conboy says the product is environmentally safe, and can be applied to vegetation and wood, he says it can defend a fire's advance for up to a month.His company sells a 50-gallon backpack for ,500, and can also fly a drone to spray hard to reach areas.He also now has the support of Jeff Bowman, who served as San Diego's fire chief during the 2003 Cedar Fire.
