Like most teachers nearing the end of the school year, Kelsea Hindley’s days are spent grading online tests and making sure her students have completed all of their assignments for the year.But for this 28-year-old high school French teacher, the end of this school year also marks the beginning of her first summer vacation as a survivor of COVID-19.Hindley was only the second person in the state of Massachusetts, where she lives, to be diagnosed with the virus earlier this year. It was a harrowing experience, not just because of the symptoms she was dealing with, but because of the stalking she said she received from local news media.In the early stages of the outbreak, her case brought with it a wave of fear and uncertainty she had never experienced before in her life. Some people, who she had never met, took to social media, saying she should leave town because they thought she might spread the novel coronavirus, even though she was quarantined at home.“My anxiety level has never been that high in my life,” she recalled. “I felt so bad. I felt like I had done something to people.”Hindley believes she more than likely contracted the virus while on a school trip to Europe with her students back in February. They had left the country weeks before top health officials had even begun to discuss the possibility of stay-at-home orders.Hesitant to tell her story at first, she is now speaking out in hopes of connecting with other COVID-19 survivors, who might be experiencing the same kind of survivors guilt as her.“Unless you’ve been sick, you don’t understand how it feels. It just feels extremely isolating,” she said about having the virus. “Don’t hold this against people just because they get sick.”Months after first getting sick, the social media attacks have all but died down. She hopes other Americans see her case and have empathy for the thousands of others who are dealing with the virus.“I want people to look at people like me and see that we do get better,” she said. “Just because I got sick doesn’t mean you have to treat me any differently than anyone else.” 2104

(KGTV) — Burglars raided the home of a cancer survivor in Lakeside, stealing her road bike days before she was planning on competing in a triathlon.In a home off Valle Vista Road, Susan Sterger made a wrenching discovery on Sunday night."When I walked into my bedroom, everything was torn apart." said Susanna Sterger, choking back tears.She and her roommates were cleaned out. Laptops, jewelry, clothes were stolen. She ran to the garage and her heart sank."Just felt really angry and violated," said Sterger.Missing from the garage: her triathlon bike, wet suit, running clothes, and even her shoes - everything she needed to compete in a triathlon on Sunday in Solana Beach."Everything I worked so hard for, I thought was taken from me in one moment," said Sterger. Four years ago, she experienced another heart-stopping moment: a diagnosis of cervical cancer.She went through many rounds of chemotherapy. The cancer returned five different times. "It's been really hard not to give up," said Sterger.She didn't and this May, doctors told her she was in remission. She began another battle - another tests of sorts - to train for a triathlon, her second in nine years."I want this with everything in my body," said Sterger.It's a goal she thought she'd never reach after the burglary. But through social media, something remarkable happened. Friends and strangers lent and donated her everything she needed, including a bike rental for the day."Don't have the words to describe the gratitude in my heart ... and I will be at that start line Sunday!" said Sterger.Sterger says neighbors saw a large group of teenage boys walking out of the home carrying stuff that night. (KTNV) - A security guard opened fire at a Ross Dress for Less in Las Vegas Saturday, sending customers into hiding for their safety, witnesses said.The shooting happened Saturday around 4 p.m. at the store in the Blue Diamond Crossing strip mall on Blue Diamond Rd.Dramatic video shows Ross customers, including a child, ducking under clothes racks as shots rang out.Watch the video:Witnesses said police arrived and exchanged shots with the gunman, who was hit by police gunfire. He was taken to a hospital for surgery. No one else was hurt.Shoppers at nearby Kohl's and Target stores were evacuated or sheltered in place during the exchange.The security guard was reportedly arguing with the store manager before the shooting. When police arrived, he also fired at them. It is not known at this time why the argument started.No personal information has been released about the security guard. LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - Three baby sea lions stranded in a small cave in La Jolla were rescued Friday by SeaWorld experts.The sea lions became trapped for an unknown reason and did not appear to be able to swim to safety. The animals' mother cried out in distress as onlookers watched from above. One sealion was lodged between two rocks, while two others were inside on the floor and unable to find their way out. A SeaWorld team reached the scene about 11:30 a.m. to save the sea lions. Mark Bressler, a SeaWorld rescuer, said the mothers and babies can get separated when humans get too close to the sea lions. The crowd cheered as the animals were reunited with their mom. 687

LAS VEGAS — Sheriff Joe Lombardo said during a press conference on Friday morning that it is still unknown why Stephen Paddock opened fire on concert-goers on the night of Oct. 1, 2017.58 people died and hundreds of people were injured during the worst mass shooting in modern history during a country music festival in Las Vegas. CLICK HERE TO READ THE FINAL REPORTLombardo stressed during the press conference that the focus of the final report is the criminal investigation and the report does not focus on the actions or lack of action of any individuals that night.Lombardo also said that Paddock was an "unremarkable man" and that there were no warning signs according to Paddock's family and doctor. The sheriff also told the press that Paddock lost a lot of money in the past year and that could have been part of the motive for what he did. The sheriff also admitted that although the shooting did not meet the federal definition of terrorism, he personally considers it an act of terrorism. Lombardo also said that there is no evidence of other gunmen and they do not expect to arrest anyone else.In addition, the sheriff admitted that the missing hard drive has not been located and that it was common practice for Paddock to remove and hide hard drives.When asked if something like this could happen again, the sheriff admitted that it could. He also talked about what they have done since the mass shooting to prevent such an event. The sheriff stressed that Las Vegas is a "safe" community.Other things discussed in the press conference included the communication system.
