(AP) — The Southern California country-western bar where 12 people were killed in a mass shooting and gunbattle will reopen more than a year after the tragedy.A gunman shot 11 victims during Nov. 7, 2018, shooting at the Borderline Bar & Grill shooting in Thousand Oaks before turning the weapon on himself. A Ventura County sheriff’s deputy was wounded by the gunman then accidentally killed by a California Highway Patrol officer during the ensuing gunbattle.The Borderline’s owners say in a video posted Thursday they’ve decided to reopen the bar though they did not offer a timeframe. There's no reason to meet up with someone when a simple two or three video chat can disqualify them,” said Geoff Cook, CEO of The Meet Group.The Meet Group, which owns several social networking apps, expects people to continue to video chat before going on a date in person even after the pandemic. But the company has also noticed a need to help online daters make healthy decisions. So, it created the Safer Dating Advisory Board.The Meet Group recruited epidemiologists and infectious disease doctors to come up with tips for safer dating. The first thing the health experts suggest is that daters be honest with one another.“Talk about comfort level, with in-person interactions, with potential dates,” said Dr. Tali Elfassy with the Safer Dating Advisory Board. “Talk about your normal activities in your day to day life. So, let your potential partners know if you work from home, whether you live in a multi-generational household.”Both people should assess their own risk and whether they feel comfortable with in-person dating.People should listen to local orders, especially if they live in an area with a high number of cases. THORNTON, Colo. – Police have arrested the suspect in a deadly shooting at a Thornton Walmart store.Scott Ostrem, 47, was taken into custody Thursday morning at 72nd and Federal.Witnesses told Thornton Police that Ostrem "nonchalantly" walked into the store Wednesday night, took out a handgun and began firing randomly at people. Two men and a woman were killed."This is a very heinous act," Avila said. The female victim was transported to Denver Health where she later succumbed to her injuries. Authorities have yet to identify the victims.No other physical injuries were reported. However, police say several people received medical attention for anxiety. Several distraught employees could be seen in the parking lot comforting each other.Investigators say there is no indication that terrorism was a motive, but have not ruled anything out at this point. They are still interviewing hundreds of witnesses and going through surveillance video.Special agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were helping police in the investigation.The shooting at the busy shopping center forced customers to either hide in the store or frantically run for the doors.Witness Harold Stevens said he was in the store with his son when he heard at least three shots. TIJUANA, Mexico (KGTV) - A witness to a crash on the Tijuana side of the U.S.-Mexico border is describing the chaos as a truck plowed into vehicles and vendors. “I heard boom, boom, boom,” said the witness, who wishes to remain anonymous. He had just finished visiting his mother in Mexico and was waiting in traffic at the San Ysidro Port of Entry to return to the United States when he saw the black truck coming up behind him. The truck driver hit three vehicles and stopped, the witness said. Other witnesses surrounded the black truck and popped the tires, the witness told 10News. “His wife turned to him and said ‘Go, go, go,'” the driver said. People who appeared to be homeless stopped to grab food that was scattered on the ground after the crash. The witness pulled over to help a woman who was struck by a taco cart, but he slipped in salsa and was injured. He saw a man grabbing a peso bill from his front seat and returned to his vehicle. Mexican police and firefighters closed down traffic for about 20 minutes. When the situation was cleared, northbound traffic into the U.S. was consolidated into two lanes, the witness said. 1333
