SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A sign advertising a block party at the home of a registered sex offender is causing concern in Rancho Bernardo.“We would like to invite you and your kids to a neighborhood get together” read the sign, which was posted outside a home on Bernardo Oaks Drive in the Seven Oaks retirement neighborhood this week.“I always keep an eye on that house because I know there’s a registered sex offender that lives there,” said Susan Sutherland.Sutherland told 10News she looked up her community on the Megan’s Law website four years ago and found a listing for a neighbor who had had been convicted of lewd acts on a child under 14, according to Sutherland“I come from a background of abuse. I can’t live with myself if I allow a child to get hurt. I can’t live with that,” Sutherland said.The sign was posted by the contractor who recently renovated the home, which is owned by the man's mother. 10News reached out to Elor Energy, which said it had no prior knowledge of the man's past. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A sudden avalanche Friday buried five guests at a Northern California ski resort, including a San Diego native and his wife.Evan Huck and his wife, Kahlynn, were among the five skiers and boarders rescued after an avalanche buried a portion of Squaw Valley Ski Resort near Lake Tahoe. Huck grew up on Coronado, his parents told 10News, and had recently married Kahlynn.The pair escaped unscathed, though hectic moments caught on video after the incident show the drastic effort to make sure things didn't end worse.10News?live?weather conditionsKahlynn and others were captured afterward frantically digging Huck out of the mountain of snow, whose beard was the only part of him peeking through.  While Huck was reportedly knocked unconscious, he was able to snowboard down the mountain on his own afterward. It took about 5 minutes to dig him out.Two of the five caught in the sudden avalanche were injured, one with a serious lower-body injury, according to Placer County Sheriff's Department. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A senior "hero" leapt into action when she saw a man snatching a neighbor's package in the La Jolla area.On a quiet afternoon last week, Gillian Ackland was in her living room when she saw an unfamiliar white car park right in her cul-de-sac off Colima Street in Bird Rock."It felt kind of strange," said Ackland.Next door was a big package sitting outside her neighbor's door.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhood"The car suddenly starts backing up diagonally. I realize he's going for the package, and I run out the front door, saw him with the package and ran to his side of the car," said Ackland.Her neighbor's Ring camera captured it all. In the video, a man is seen walking up to the door, grabbing the big package and a smaller one. As he starts running to his car, so does Ackland, who yells, "That's not yours!" three times.He shoves the package in the back seat, but the door didn't fully close."There was adrenaline going," said Ackland.Ackland sensed her chance."I knew I had a few seconds and I could do something - and I did it," said Ackland.She opened the back door and tried to pull the package out. The package starts to fall out, but not far enough, as the car drives off. Ackland has no regrets."The injustice of all kept me going. I just felt it's not right, and I just thought I could get the package away from him," said Ackland.Another neighbor took a photo of the car showing an Uber sticker on the front windshield. Inside the package was a side table. She says the neighbor missing the package thanked her profusely. He told 10News she is a "superhero neighbor.""It's actually a little embarrassing," said Ackland.The video was shared on the "Neighbors by Ring" app."It's important that neighbors look out for each other. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego police officer was involved in a shooting outside a music venue in downtown San Diego just before 7 p.m. Saturday.San Diego Police Lt. Mike Holden said that a white man in his thirties was acting violently on top of a vehicle hood on the corner of W. Ash Street and India Street.The man was only wearing pants and did not have a shirt or shoes on and was standing on the hood of a car yelling at the driver, police said. A police officer tried to take the man into custody and used a Taser, which did not subdue him. Police said the man continued to act violently.The officer then fired one shot, which did not hit anybody."The officer continued to struggle with the suspect," said Lt. Mike Holden of the San Diego Police Department. "At one point during the struggle the officer feared for his life. The officer fired one round from his handgun, but missed the suspect."The suspect, Brent Zadina, 30, was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for observation. Police do not believe Zadina was armed.The officer sustained minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital, Holden said. Police are investigating the incident near the Music Box. The roads were closed nearby for the investigation but have since reopened.This is a developing story. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A winter storm warning has been issued for the mountains in San Diego County ahead of a strong winter storm expected to move in Monday night.The winter storm warning goes into effect from 7 p.m. Monday to 10 p.m. Tuesday.Snow accumulations are expected to be anywhere between six to 12 inches with difficult travel conditions expected, warned the National Weather Service.More than a foot of snow is expected above 6000 feet with accumulation between 4000 and 6000 feet expected to be four to eight inches and accumulations between 3000 to 4000 feet expected to be between two and four inches.The National Weather Service also said snow is expected to fall to 2000 to 2500 feet Tuesday.  RELATED: Ski Reports | Today's Forecast | Traffic conditions | Strong winds, light snow hit Laguna Mountains In addition to heavy snow, winds could top out at 50 miles per hour.The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department says mountain residents should be prepared for crowds as families from low-lying areas travel to snow-packed mountains.Area businesses also say they typically see an influx in visitors during snowy periods.An employee with the Julian Lodge Bed and Breakfast says visitors usually come from San Diego, North County, Los Angeles and that the lodge has even hosted visitors from as far away as China and Japan.In San Diego, 280 beds are being made available downtown as cold winter temperatures are set to swiftly fall over the county after sunset.Father Joe’s Village will house 250 people at its building on 1501 Imperial Avenue. Check-ins will also be made available throughout the night with meals also being provided.As many as 30 others will be sheltered at the PATH San Diego/Connections Housing Shelter at 1250 Sixth Avenue.
