LOS ANGELES (AP) — California Sen. Dianne Feinstein has endorsed Joe Biden for president, lining up with a fellow centrist Democrat and onetime Senate colleague and snubbing her home-state counterpart, Sen. Kamala Harris. In a statement Tuesday, Feinstein says she has worked closely with the former vice president and Delaware senator and has "seen firsthand his legislative ability, his statesmanship and most importantly his moral fortitude."The endorsement was not unexpected — Feinstein earlier indicated she favored Biden and recently held a fundraiser for him at her San Francisco home. The announcement comes at a time when Harris has been fading in polls and is struggling to regain her earlier momentum in the 2020 contest.Feinstein says Biden "will continue the fight to restore the soul of the nation from the Oval Office." 842
LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Three men and three women were arrested for allegedly toppling and vandalizing a statue of President George Washington in Grand Park, authorities said Saturday. The vandalism occurred about 6:40 p.m. Thursday in the downtown park at 200 N. Grand Ave. in the Civic Center, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.Officers monitoring a nearby protest saw people pulling on red bands tied to the statue's neck, police said. The statue broke off of its base and fell to the ground, where it was spray-painted as the six suspects and others cheered and celebrated, police said. The suspects then hid nearby to change their clothes and conceal items in their backpacks to avoid arrest, police said. But police were waiting when they left the protest at Spring and Temple streets and the six suspects were arrested.Officers recovered items during the arrest including a gas mask, laser pointer, helmet, goggles, arm protectors and change of clothing, police said. The suspects were identified as Elizabeth Brookey, 19, of Burbank; Christopher Woodard, 33, of Los Angeles; Anna Asher, 28, of North Hollywood; Emma Juncosa, 23, of Los Angeles; Andrew Johnson, 22, of Glendale and Barham Lashley, 30, of North Hollywood. The case will be presented to the District Attorney's office for consideration of felony filings, police said. 1351

LOS ANGELES (AP) — An autopsy report says a Black man shot and killed by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies was wounded 16 times in the front and back. But the report doesn’t shed any light on whether he was on the ground when he was shot. The county coroner's report supplied to The Associated Press on Friday says Dijon Kizzee had four “rapidly life-threatening wounds." The 29-year-old died Aug. 31 in South Los Angeles after deputies tried to stop him for riding a bicycle in the wrong direction. Deputies said they shot Kizzee when he picked up a dropped handgun. Attorneys for the family deny that he picked up the gun. 636

Local veterans are getting help buying homes through a program that aims to give them an upper hand in the competitive southern California housing market. So Cal VA Homes was founded six years ago by Peter Van Brady. He says he realized just how many issues his military clients were having buying a home with their benefits. So he makes a cash offer on behalf of the vets and incorporates them in the renovation process. " And then we transfer the home to the veteran using their VA benefit for zero down and zero closing," said Brady. So far he's been able to help put nearly 40 veterans and their families into houses.
