San Diego (KGTV)- A music teacher at Grossmont High School reached out to the community after students were in need of guitars for the upcoming school year. The students will be practicing distance learning.Music teacher Jeremy Cook says the support has been overwhelming.“The response from the community has been absolutely amazing. I’ve met so many people. I’ve driven across the county picking up the guitars,” says Cooke.Cooke has received 117 guitars for students to practice.“Last year we had upwards of 120 guitar students total,” says Cooke. “There’s a hope to be able to offer guitars to students who aren’t able to take the class.”A couple of weeks ago, Cooke went to pick up a donation from a woman named Pam Anderson in Mission Hills.“I took it back to my car and popped it open. I was flabbergasted at what was inside. It was a 1969 Fender Telecaster.”These guitars range from ,000 to ,000. Cooke says he had to let Anderson know its value.“She said that she appreciated the honesty, and she still wanted to donate the guitar to the school,” says Cooke. “It was her husband’s who passed away. She said she knew he would want the same thing.”The guitar will be used for student performances and in the newly renovated music room when students are allowed back on campus.Cooke says he appreciates all of the donations. As a thank you to Anderson, the teacher has set up a GoFund Me page to help her during the pandemic.Cooke says there is still a need for guitars for the upcoming school year. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Workers around San Diego make more than the national average, according to a new U.S. Bureau or Labor Statistics report. The report shows that San Diegans make roughly .93 per hour, 12 percent more than the national average of .98. Management jobs paid the highest, with an average of just over per hour, followed by legal occupations at .43. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two weeks after their son was killed, the parents of Alexander Mazin spoke to 10News for the first time about the brutal attack.Penelope and Jeffrey Mazin say their son left for the 24 Hour Fitness gym on Midway Dr. around 9 a.m. on Feb. 25, 2018.“I said 'I love you' and I kissed him on his little fuzzy beard,” remembered his mom, “and he walked out the door. I’m glad I saw him that morning.”He was scheduled to meet with his dad at noon, but by 12:05, his parents were already worried. He was never late.They started calling hospitals and police stations. Little did they know, officers were already searching for him.“Two plainclothes detectives in black cars pulled up and my heart sunk because I knew right then and there something horrible must have happened,” said Jeffrey.The suspect in the case has been identified as Ernesto Castellanos.The Mazins say Castellanos was in a previous relationship with their son’s girlfriend. They say Alexander had been dating the woman for about three months but kept their relationship somewhat private.There were warning signs. Two weeks before the killing, they say Castellanos had attacked the woman while she was working out with Mazin at a 24 Hour Fitness.Castellanos’ whereabouts are unknown. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With the help of witnesses, a driver was arrested late Wednesday night after police said he crashed into several parked cars before taking a U-turn and crashing head-on into another vehicle.According to San Diego police, the incident began at around 11 p.m. on University Avenue in North Park.Cell phone video captured by a witness shows the driver hitting parked cars before trying to leave the scene. He then ends up on the wrong side of the street, where he then crashes into another car, the video shows.The man gets out of the car and tries to run away, but witnesses detained him until police arrived.The driver was taken to a hospital and is suspected of driving under the influence.A woman in the car hit head-on was also taken to a hospital with minor injuries. 798
