CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- A Hazmat crew was called to a propane leak at a home in Chula Vista Tuesday night. Crews at the scene tell 10News that a food truck parked in the driveway of the home was leaking propane. Initially the plan was to jack the truck so crews could access, but they were unable to do so. They're now planning to safely light off the propane until it burns off. (KGTV) — A Chula Vista man says he got a screeching, costly surprise after he started his car Wednesday morning.Along Regency Way, just before 6:30 a.m., Jimmy got into his Toyota Corolla S, which was parked in the street."Started the car. As I was pulling out, felt my car lurch to the side," said Jimmy, who asked us not to use his last name.The lurch came amid the most awful of noises."Pretty much like a crash ... felt the scraping of my rotor on the asphalt ... and then pretty much my car slammed into the asphalt itself. Traumatized and scared of what happened," said Jimmy.His heart sank as he got out and stared at the driver's side wheels, which had fallen off."My lug nuts were completely missing, all ten of them on the left side," said Jimmy.His repair estimate: a staggering ,500. He's insured with a 0 deductible. "Every little cost affects you. It matters," said Jimmy.Jimmy's vehicle was not the only target. Two blocks away the same morning, another driver shared a similar fate because of stolen lug nuts. A member of the HOA board for the nearby condos told 10news that a month ago, there were reports of a car with loosened lug nuts. The motive of the incidents remain unknown. Jimmy doesn't believe he was personally targeted, but he's fearful the thief will be back at it again. "It could have cost my life or another driver's life. CHULA VISTA (KGTV) - Nearly 5,000 people were without power Saturday evening in Chula Vista, according to SDG&E.The outage began about 7:30 p.m. with around 1,700 customers in the dark. It expanded to about 4,800 by 9:30 p.m., according to SDG&E's website.The power was restored at about 10 p.m. SDG&E did not provide the cause of the outage.This is a developing story. 10News will update when details become available. 445
CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A South Bay officer was arrested Wednesday after a reported domestic violence incident, police confirmed.Chula Vista Police officer Leopoldo Armando Chousal, 27, was arrested at a residence in the 6400 block of Potomac Street by San Diego Police. The incident occurred while Chousal was off-duty, police said.SDPD said Chousal was booked on one count of making "criminal threats" to harm his girlfriend. CVPD personnel were also at the scene when SDPD made the arrest.RELATED: Former Marine sentenced for punching San Diego Police Officer answering callChousal has been placed on administrative leave with a suspension of peace officer powers."CVPD takes these allegations seriously and was disappointed to learn of this incident. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A state-of-the-art hospital is nearly complete in the South Bay. The Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center is expanding, adding a seven-story hospital to the current facility. "I think this is just everything for this community, right now we're really the only ones investing down here in the South Bay, in Chula Vista," says Matt Teichner, Sharp Chula Vista Senior Project Manager."Everyone who comes in here gets seen regardless of your ability to pay, we see people from both sides of the border here, and we are just full to the brim every day right now."It will be the first new hospital in San Diego's South Bay in more than 40 years.Planners say patient safety and infection control was the number one factor when designing the new hospital. The new hospital features advanced operating rooms as well as innovative technologies. The new hospital is Sharp HealthCare's largest single investment to-date at 4 million.Construction is scheduled to be complete by August and then a grand opening a few months later. 1054
