SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – An Oceanside man was killed Wednesday afternoon after crashing his pickup truck into the back of a big rig on state Route 163 in Linda Vista, the California Highway Patrol said.CHP officials said the crash happened at around 3:40 p.m. on the northbound side of SR-163, just south of Genesee Avenue.According to the CHP, a white Nissan pickup truck was traveling at an unknown speed when it collided with a big rig that was directly in front of it and going at a slower speed.Aerial footage from Sky10 showed the pickup truck wedged under the back of the semi.The pickup’s driver was declared dead at the scene, the CHP said.CHP officials said the big rig’s 50-year-old male driver was not hurt and remained at the scene.Investigators are trying to determine what led to the crash, including if alcohol or drugs were involved.Watch video from the scene below:Major crash on the 163Major crash on the 163A vehicle is trapped beneath a big-rig on northbound SR-163.Posted by 10News – ABC San Diego KGTV on Wednesday, August 5, 202010News will continue to keep you updated as soon as we receive more information. 1135

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A teenager was shot Tuesday in San Diego’s Jamacha-Lomita neighborhood, San Diego Police say.Police were called to the 7600 block of Viewcrest Drive around 12:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting.When they arrived, officers found a male in his late teens suffering from a gunshot wound.The teen was taken to the hospital with wounds that “appear to be non-life threatening,” police say. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A surfer was found unconscious, face down in the water near Pacific Beach early Wednesday.San Diego lifeguards were notified of the woman in her 30's just after 8 a.m. inside the surf zone at Tourmaline Surf Park.10News spoke to Jason Glover, a paddleboard surfer who set up a robot-camera on the beach to capture surf videos. One of the clips captured the audio of the exact moment bystanders found the woman unconscious.“Hey! Hey! Call 9-1-1,” they said. Fellow surfers immediately pulled her out of the water and started CPR. Lifeguards continued life-saving efforts once they arrived, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue spokeswoman Mónica Mu?oz.The woman began breathing again and was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital, but her condition was not immediately known.“They immediately brought her in. But that’s what surfers do. Whenever there’s a crew out here, you know you’re going to be fine because everyone looks after each other,” Glover said.It's unclear what caused the woman to become unconscious. 1042

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego teenager has written a book about her choice to quit social media, and how it's made her happier and healthier."It's something I'm passionate about," says 16-year old Alexa Mendes, who wrote #Unsubscribed over the last summer. "My rules are don't post, don't comment and don't like anything."She's also removed all social media apps from her phone.Mendes says she started using social media as a fifth-grader and would check apps like Instagram, Snapchat and Pinterest regularly."I was always on it," she says. "You're always thinking about it if you're not on it. When you're on it, you scroll through your entire feed and then go back to the top and make sure there's nothing refreshed. You keep looking through it to see if anyone else has posted more."She says the addiction consumed her life."When you're with other people, you're thinking about how you're going to get the next photo opportunity, where you're going to stand, how you're going to pose, when you should post, how much you should post, if it's too much. And there's a whole stream of consciousness that goes through your head," says Mendes.In middle school, she started to cut back. First, a few days at a time, then weeks. Eventually, she quit.Now, she uses social media to keep track of school projects and homework, but nothing else.Her book details her journey and experience with social media. It also includes comments from her friends as they chime in about the way social media has affected their lives. It also has some tips on ways that anyone, teen or adult, can cut back."You have to notice that it's a problem.
