SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A police pursuit involving a man who failed to yield that started in the Los Angeles area took authorities all the way to San Diego Thursday.The suspect, later identified as Karl Flores, 34, was driving a red Honda Civic when he failed to yield on Washington Boulevard at about 11 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol. The man had first been reported as a stolen vehicle suspect, but police eventually said that was not the case.Flores then took police on a pursuit through the Los Angeles area, at one point hitting a pedestrian riding a scooter. The pedestrian suffered non-life threatening injuries, according to police.WATCH THE PURSUIT LIVE:Flores continued into the Inglewood area before avoiding a PIT maneuver by police that sent the Honda spinning, KABC reported. He continued fleeing police, avoided more PIT maneuver attempts, and drove from southbound Interstate 405 to Interstate 5 into San Diego.The vehicle stopped on I-5 near Las Pulgas Rd. at about 1:30 p.m., prompting a police standoff and Sig Alert was issued for both directions of I-5 at Las Pulgas Rd. CHP said it appeared the vehicle had run out of gas. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Marine Corps. family won a -million lawsuit against Lincoln Military Housing after they say mold sickened their children.The Charvat family moved to San Diego's military housing near the Marine Corps. Recruitment Depot in April 2015. Father and husband Matthew worked at MCRD.The lawsuit lists disturbing symptoms the family dealt with, including "diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, irritated eyes, watery eyes, fatigue, stuffy nose, sinus congestion, itchy skin, sneezing, sore and dry throat, chest tightness, runny nose, lethargy."Anna, 9, was brought to tears when she described what she and her family endured, "my breathing was bad, I got sick a lot and my brother," she said choking up.Her mother, Leigh, said she had to take Anna to the emergency room after Anna woke up in the middle of the night gasping for air.When it came to her 6-year-old son Johnathan, "you could hear him breathing downstairs, it was very loud we used to say he sounded like Darth Vader."She said she tried everything from a different diet to going to doctors to try and figure out why her family was sick."I felt everyone thought I was crazy. Doctors, family thought I was crazy," she said in anguish. Then, the family found vents covered in black mold."It was shocking, I was disgusted," Leigh said, but she was also relieved to find an answer."Okay this is it, let’s get rid of it and let’s get on with our lives so we can get back to the way things were," she said.The lawsuit stated the defendant, Lincoln Military Housing, "negligently, improperly, recklessly and in a non-controlled manner, exposing Plaintiffs to excessive moisture, dampness, and humidity, as well as microbial contamination."Leigh said the company tried to "put a band-aide" on the situation and didn't try to find the source of the mold, "we were still sick after all their attempts to clean."The family moved out and had to throw away toys and furniture to keep from contaminating their new home. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new political party is accused of tricking some San Diego voters into joining them.San Diego Registrar of Voters' Michael Vu told 10News he has referred the matter to the District Attorney and the Secretary of State's Fraud Investigation Unit.The Common Sense Party was founded by former Republicans and is currently attempting to get the 67,000 signatures needed to appear on future ballots as an state-recognized political party. A co-founder told 10News the party hired a third-party company in San Diego to help gather the signatures.RELATED: Early voting begins in California Primary as San Diego County sends out mail ballotsHowever, as first uncovered in an investigation by 10News media partner KPBS, dozens of San Diego voters who are registered for the Common Sense Party say they did not remember signing up and, in fact, had not even heard of the party.Some said the signature gatherer told them they were signing a housing petition. Others said they were given a voter registration form that did not include a place to indicate party preference. When KPBS obtained the form that had been filed by the signature party gatherer for one of the voters, she said she hadn't made any changes. "Oh, no. This is not something I recognize. That is not my handwriting. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A passenger has tested positive for coronavirus on one of the first Caribbean cruises since the pandemic started. The case may push the start of cruising out of San Diego even further.On its maiden voyage since the pandemic, the SeaDream Cruiseliner has its first case of COVID-19. Travel writer Gene Sloan for “The Points Guy” is on that ship and now stuck in quarantine.“They’re going right now cabin to cabin and testing everyone on board,” said Sloan.The ship with 53 passengers and 66 crew set sail from Barbados on Saturday. Sloan says everyone got tested before getting on board and the trip was going well until the captain made an announcement Wednesday that someone had tested positive.All passengers were instructed to self-isolate in their staterooms.The CDC’s “No Sail Order” for ships in the United States expired Oct. 30. Technology has provided flexibility in how and where we do our jobs, but when we consider how to ‘Make it in San Diego,’ we found working remotely can also put money back in your pocket. Ashley Goggins is a prime example and is one of over 8 million people in the United States who work remotely. “I’m a customer success manager for a software company,” says Goggins.Her company is headquartered in Chicago, but Ashley does her job from her living room in San Diego. “I typically wake up around 6:00 in the morning, and my calls start coming in around 6:30,” adds Goggins. “The great part about that is I don’t have to spend time getting ready, eating breakfast right away, or sitting in the car.”Goggins is part of a growing trend. Especially in the employment sectors of management, business, and science where working remotely is a valuable option for some employees. “Many industries that are prevalent in San Diego lend themselves to remote work,” says Kevin Fowler. Kevin Fowler is a writer for Volusion and author of the study. His research shows San Diego is one of the top cities in the nation when it comes to employees working remotely full-time. And for many trying to ‘Make it in San Diego,’ working remotely has its financial benefits. “The peripheral costs of working on location add up to about ,000 per year,” says Fowler.That’s right. A survey from Career Builder found that the simple act of going to work, including wear and tear on your car, gas, fair for the bus or train, lunch, even coffee adds up to about ,300 a year. “I haven’t done the math, but it does cut some costs down,” says Goggins. “I actually just contacted my car insurance company to reduce the amount of miles, so my premium is lower.”Granted, there are some negatives associated with working remotely.
