Susan says within hours of signing with REX, they already had potential buyers wanting to see their home.“We got a text that a showing appointment has been scheduled," Beach said. "They give you choices of what time, and you pick one and it was like 'wow.'" Just like local real estate agents, REX agents post your home on places like Zillow and Trulia. Co-Founder of REX Jack Ryan said the company uses specific technology to pinpoint the perfect buyer and market your home to them through targeted ads.“The difference is we can find the buyers because we make predictions about who the buyer might be for your home then drop ads on them,” said Ryan.They work with companies like Crate and Barrel and Best Buy to research what potential buyers are shopping for or are interested in and tweak their ads accordingly.“I know people think it’s too good to be true but that’s the miracle of technology today, which is you can target people exactly based upon their behaviors and people think is relevant ads,” said Ryan.Not only do they claim to sell your home faster, Ryan said REX can save thousands of dollars in commissions. “We do everything a real estate agent would do but we do it for 2 percent not 6 percent or 5, 6 percent which can mean ,000 or ,000 to a person,” said Ryan.Susan said what she saved will go toward their retirement.Rex isn’t the only company offering this type of service. SEATTLE — Add marine wildlife to the growing list of life affected by America’s opioid crisis.For the first time, scientists have detected traces of oxycodone in mussels near Seattle, KIRO7 reported. Biologist Jennifer Lanksbury explained whatever people eat and excrete — including opioids — end up in waterways.“It’s telling me there's a lot of people taking oxycodone in the Puget Sound area,” Lanksbury said. Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife officials extracted mussels from clean water and put them in urban areas they wanted to test for contamination. There was enough oxycodone in a Seattle-area bay for the mussels to test positive.The system that filters water catches a lot of contaminants, but it can’t specifically filter out drugs, Kings County Wastewater Management said.“Those are definitely chemicals that are out there in the nearshore waters and they may be having an impact on the fish and shellfish that live there,” Lanksbury said.The data was from a one-time study for prescription drugs in Washington’s waterways, but officials say they will try to get more funding to continue research. 1163

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. -- With wildfires burning across the West Coast and coronavirus concerns impacting communities, emergency evacuation shelters in California are facing crisis and chaos.In Santa Cruz County, leaders say local fires have displaced about one in every five residents.That includes Anthony Koppe, who lost his house in Boulder Creek during the CZU fire.“I don’t want to dwell on it too much. you know,” he said. “It’s happened and we got to move on.”Koppe and many others from California’s Central Coast are now seeking help at a local recovery resource center where new safety measures have been added to combat COVID-19.“If somebody has something, instead of passing it on, you can catch it at the door,” he said.Just to get in those doors, people have to pass a pretty strict health screening, like filling out an extensive questionnaire and getting your temperature taken with a new touchless thermometer.“It’s impacted everything,” Rosemary Anderson, emergency services manager for the County of Santa Cruz, said about how COVID-19 has changed how emergency evacuations shelters are operating.Gone are the days of hundreds of cots stuffed in an auditorium. Now, places like Kaiser Permanente Arena, which normally holds 25,000 people, has a maximum capacity of 68.“Everything was measured out so each of the tables and the resources are all 6 feet apart and people can interact from a distance where its COVID safe,” Anderson said.COVID-19 concerns have also impacted other disaster relief organizations.“Where we’d normally have 500 people in a gym, now we’re only doing about 50,” said Tony Briggs of the American Red Cross.Briggs says the coronavirus has forced his teams to change how they help people cope with disaster during this pandemic.“Now, with COVID, we can do all the listening, but you can’t do the contact,” he said. “And for some people, that hug is a really, really big deal.”Even with the added attention to detail, leaders in Santa Cruz are expecting coronavirus transmission rates to increase because more people are coming in contact at these resource centers.“If something is wrong with somebody, I definitely don’t want to catch it or my lady or my son,” Koppe said.While people like Koppe may have lost their homes, these new safety measures haven’t let them lose hope“It definitely gives me peace of mind,” he said. 2375

SAN MARCOS (CNS) -- A young man was killed in a solo-vehicle rollover crash down an embankment near a San Marcos school, authorities said Tuesday.The crash was reported around 6:40 p.m. Monday on Schoolhouse Way, east of Elfin Forest Road near San Elijo Middle School, San Diego County Sheriff's Sgt. Charles Morreale said.Investigators determined a 19-year-old man was driving a Chevrolet pickup southbound on Schoolhouse Way at high speed when he lost control of the truck, struck a curb and the vehicle overturned down an embankment, Morreale said.The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, the sergeant said. The young man's name was withheld pending family notification. 685
