Chief Justice John Roberts made a rare statement on Wednesday pushing back against President Donald Trump after the President again went after federal judges."We do not have Obama judges or Trump judges, Bush judges or Clinton judges," Roberts said. "What we have is an extraordinary group of dedicated judges doing their level best to do equal right to those appearing before them. CHULA VISTA (CNS) - Detectives worked Friday to determine who fatally shot a man in a South Bay parking lot, apparently during a quarrel over a dog.Patrol officers responding to reports of gunfire near the intersection of Interstate 5 and state Route 54 shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday found Corey McCastle, 41, on the ground in the 700 block of E Street in Chula Vista, suffering from bullet wounds, according to police.Paramedics took McCastle to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead."The motive for the shooting remains unknown," Lt. Dan Peak said. "However, it is believed McCastle had gone to the location to speak with an unknown individual regarding a dispute over a dog."The shooter was described only as a man dressed in dark-colored clothes and armed with a handgun.Further details on the disagreement that apparently led to the slaying was not immediately available. 888

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - What started as a donation to help hospital heroes has blossomed into an ongoing relationship. The San Diego chapter of the North American Taiwanese Women’s Association makes a point to help in any natural disaster. While they usually would step up to help with something like hurricane relief, they made it a point to help with the pandemic.A woman connected to the group who also works at Sharp Chula Vista told the seamstresses that the medical workers at her hospital were in need of caps, so the ladies got to work. They made a batch of caps to donate, and haven’t put down their sewing machines since.Every time the ladies make a batch of caps, the medical staff take a picture with the items and send it back to the creators.“We love seeing those smiles from the medical professionals and we feel like we are really doing something for them because they work so hard for the community,” said Chunmei Carol Lin, President of the Taiwanese American Foundation of San Diego.Since the start of the pandemic, the seamstresses have more than 1,000 caps for the Sharp Chula Vista staff, as of September. (KGTV) - A skate park that was once riddled with graffiti is getting a grand homecoming in the South Bay.The City of Chula Vista will hold a grand reopening of the Len Moore Skate Park on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with raffles, prizes., local vendors, live music, and demonstrations by skating pros.The Boys and Girls Club closed the park last August due to costly maintenance and repair issues. This led to the organization giving up the park to the city.Since that time, though, vandalism and graffiti became a constant concern, which led to the park's reopening in February. City officials will now monitor the park for cleanliness and graffiti."Before the city could actually open it up there were some minor maintenance things that we needed to take care of. There were some ramps that needed to be taken out and demolished. There was a lot of graffiti," Gil Contreras, principal recreations manager with the City of Chula Vista, said.Community members had a say in the park's reopening as well. A series of community meetings asked the public what they wanted out of the park, the priority being the ability to skate for free. The park will also offer skate classes, day camps, and birthday party rentals.RESOURCES: Learning how to skateboard"We definitely took everything into consideration when reopening the park. [Community members] were concerned about the graffiti and the vandalism and things like that," Contreras said. "We did reassure them ... we have park rangers who frequently visit all of our parks. We have a staff who actually comes through every day and just kind of gets an idea and looks at everything and talks to the patrons."Since February's reopening, Contreras says all the city has received are positive remarks.The park is open daily from 8 a.m. to dusk to skateboarding, BMX bikes, scooters, in-line skating, and roller skating. Managers organize data.It sounds like a lot. But a group of Chula Vista students has it down to a science.Rancho Del Rey Middle School's Royal Robotics team is a "well-oiled machine," as they like to put it. And generally, some of them will be tournament champions so we do have to make our robot highly effective to combat them,"And the team has put in long hours to perfect their creation."They take the robot home with their parents' help and work on the weekends," teacher Kirk Braito said. "It's just an amazing amount of dedication."Thanks to the completeness of their design notebook, which houses all their data, the team hopes to grab the award for best design and have a championship banner to hang at Rancho Del Rey.But the team faces one last obstacle, getting to Kentucky."It is an enormous financial obligation that I'm trying desperately to make up because the funding is basically all us," Braito said.The team has set up a GoFundMe to help with expenses and has raised almost half of their goal.
