(KGTV) - Burglars left behind a trail of destruction at two locations, which included an apparent attempt to delay a Poway family's return home.Just before 5 p.m. Wednesday, doorbell video shows Diana's family pulling out of their driveway in Poway, bound for a jujitsu class in Kearny Mesa. After that class, they discovered one of the tires on their van flattened. The culprit: the metal valve on that tire had been sliced. They got their van towed to a mechanic and received an Uber ride to their home off Pomerardo Road, arriving just before 7:15 p.m."The first thing we noticed was our doorbell was on the ground," said Diana.Her Ring doorbell had been yanked out. Inside the home was darkness."Our power was cut. It was pitch black. My kids were terrified," said Diana.Her kids, ages 8 and 10, remained outside while her husband, Jay, went inside with a phone light."I thought someone took a sledgehammer to the house, or a hammer, or a bat," said Jay.The trail of destruction up his staircase was caused by none of those things. (KGTV) - Poway Unified School District is launching a pilot program in an attempt to take an innovative approach to special education, bringing children with learning disabilties together with the general education population."We know, as students of history, separate has never been equal," Associate Superintendent Greg Mizel said in an interview with 10News. "So the more that we mix up our kids, the better for all children."The program is being tried in three schools: Monterey Ridge Elementary in 4S Ranch, Twin Peaks Middle in Poway, and Mt. Carmel in Rancho Pe?asquitos. All students who are in the special education program will have regular classes with students from the general education population. Those classes will have two teachers, one from special ed and one from general ed. That means all children will have more academic support, while there always be someone trained to give the special needs students the additional care they need.Thus far, teachers and administrators say the program has been a big success, with special education students thriving on the increased socialization and higher academic standards, and the general education students getting additional attention in the classroom and the chance to increase empathy working with differently abled students.Staff at seven other PUSD schools are currently going through training in anticipation of the program being expanded next school year. 1448

POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) - Poway homeowners say what once was a pristine golf course has now become an overgrown zoo. StoneRidge Country Club closed after voters defeated a previous development plan in 2017.Since the closure neighbors who live along the forlorn course say, little has been done to clear out brush and preserve the once lush golf course. "Absolutely nothing has been done on the course to maintain any sense of beauty. It's been a hazard with the bees, the snakes, the scorpions, gopher holes, you name it," said Rosalind Duddy, who's lived along the golf course since 1991. A crusader for her community, Duddy now goes on the course several times a month with a week whacker, clearing out dry brush. "Considering that we were here in '07 fires, and ultimately had to evacuate, 20-some homes were burned to the ground, brings back really, really incredible memories, and certainly I wouldn't want to have to have that experience again," said Duddy. The property is currently owned by Michael Schlesinger, who city officials say has completed the weed clearing around the perimeter of the property, consistent with the requirements for fire fuel management. This includes the clearing of weeds within 100 feet of structures. However, he has not yet completed the clearing around the clubhouse building.City officials say the weed abatement (wildfire defensible space) requirements are 100 feet from structures and 10 feet from roadways that are in the high fire hazard areas. Only the northeastern portion of the Stoneridge property is in the high fire hazard area.
