Derik Holley was flown to Lindbergh Field then driven to Greenwood Mortuary.He was killed on April 3rd during a training exercise near El Centro when his helicopter crashed.Lance Cpl. Taylor J. Conrad, 1st Lt. Samuel D. Phillips and Capt. Samuel A. Schultz were also killed.A memorial service has been scheduled on Tuesday at MCAS Miramar. 535

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego Zoo and San Diego Zoo Safari Park are scheduled to reopen to the public on June 20.The Saturday, June 20, opening ends the first major closure in San Diego Zoo Global’s 103-year history.The Zoo and Safari Park were closed in mid-March amid the coronavirus pandemic.Officials noted that health and safety measures that comply with local and state guidelines would be in place at both the Zoo and Safari Park.Some of the modifications at the parks include:face coverings required for all guests over 2 years of agepracticing social distancinglimited dining and shopping, overall reduced park hoursreduction of guests in the parks (operating at limited capacity)limited guest parkingmembers and guests will not be allowed to leave the parks and re-enter on the same dayone-way path adjustments and barriers to help guests navigate safelyincreased number of hand-washing and sanitizing locationsrobust cleaning routineVisitors will be asked health questions upon entry.The following will not be available during the parks’ initial reopening phase: the Zoo’s Guided Bus Tour, Kangaroo Bus and Skyfari Aerial Tram, and the Safari Park’s Africa Tram.Other activities that traditionally include larger numbers of guests -- including some shows, tours and Safari experiences -- will also be temporarily unavailable.Paul Baribault, president/CEO for San Diego Zoo Global, said in a statement, “As the San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park reopen to guests, it’s true that we will be faced with a new normal. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The University of San Diego is working to give a boost to those interested in getting a foot in the door of the ever-growing field of cybersecurity. To create the six-month program, USD partnered with a boot camp company to get people trained and employed in cybersecurity as soon as possible. The program springs out of a need for employees. According to a new economic report, the cybersecurity industry has a more than billion economic impact on San Diego, with a total of 19,660 jobs impacted. More than 150 cyber firms call San Diego home, according to the report. Of those, 75 percent expect to grow their cyber employment in the next 12 months. It's a challenging job market to find those people right now because it is such a high need across the board and across every industry,” said Andy Haass, Chief Engineer at Booz Allen Hamilton. From 2016 to 2018, 830 new jobs were created in the field in San Diego alone. The 11 percent increase is faster than the regional employment increase of 3 percent. That’s great news for San Diegans hoping for a fresh start in a new career. According to the report, 82 percent of firms believe it’s important to be near universities doing cyber work. 1317

  

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego Sheriff's Department released several videos of a deadly shooting that occurred after a pursuit ended in Chula Vista.The shooting took place after a pursuit that started in Orange County around midnight on Oct. 4. The suspect of the chase, identified as Christopher Ulmer, 33, of Whitter, Calif., led officers to Chula Vista, where authorities stopped his vehicle using a pit maneuver on I-805 south near Orange Avenue at about 1 a.m.Police say Ulmer exited his vehicle and pointed his arm at officers who believed he was holding a firearm, prompting officers to fire their service weapons. Officers say Ulmer got back up and pointed at officers again, prompting a second round of gunfire.RELATED: Pursuit suspect shot by law enforcement on I-805 in Chula Vista identifiedUlmer was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he was pronounced dead.Video released by the Sheriff's Department showed a photo of a black, cylindrical object found underneath Ulmer's body that authorities believed to have been a gun before they fired their weapons.The CHP officers involved in the shooting were identified as Sergeant John Holm who has been employed for 22 years, Officer Pakko Mendez who has been employed for 11 years, officer Javier Mendoza who has been employed for seven years, and officer Lauren Chi who has been employed for three years.RELATED: Authorities identify officers involved in deadly South Bay shootingThe San Diego Police officers involved in the shooting were identified as Sergeant Michael Pidgeon who has been employed for 26 years, and officer Patrick Harvey who has been employed for seven years. Both officers are on administrative leave per the department's policy.Once the Sheriff's Department completes their investigation, it will be turned over to the San Diego County District Attorney's Office to determine if any officers bear criminal liability.The FBI and U.S. Attorney's Office of Southern District of California will monitor the investigation. 2022
