ESCONDIDO (KGTV) -- Escondido police arrested a man with prior criminal convictions Thursday after they found him passed out in his vehicle wearing a ballistic vest and loaded rifle magazines in his front passenger seat. He also had other weapons and police gear he'd allegedly stolen from a law enforcement officer in San Diego, authorities said.According to a release from Escondido Police Department, officers found the man after a caller reported him passed out around 1:10 a.m. outside the 7-Eleven on West Ninth Avenue. The caller said the man was likely under the influence of drugs and did not respond to attempts at waking him.When officers arrived on scene, they recognized the man as 30-year-old Thomas Vann, who has prior criminal convictions. He was wearing a ballistic vest with loaded rifle magazines that were "plainly visible" on the front passenger seat.Officers were able to wake Vann and detain him. They searched his vehicle and found four fully loaded rifle magazines, 126 rounds of rifle and shotgun ammunition, and stolen police gear, including a tactical vest, a duty belt, a medical kit, and handcuffs. Officers determined the police gear was stolen Wednesday from a law enforcement officer in San Diego. They also found 392 grams of methamphetamine and 78 grams of heroin.Vann was arrested and booked into the Vista Detention Facility on numerous drugs, weapons, and stolen property charges. 1426

Evacuations have been ordered for northern Arizona communities due to the Tinder Fire burning near Happy Jack.According to Coconino County officials, evacuations were ordered Sunday by the Coconino County Sheriff's Office for affected communities north, east and west of Highway 87 including Moqui Ranchettes, all of Starlight Pines, Clear Creek (except 1 and 2), all of Timber Ranch, all of Tamarron, Pine Canyon, Blue Ridge Estates, Ponderosa Pines, and Mogollon Ranches. The evacuation will be in effect until further notice, deputies will stay in the area to provide 24-hour security.  The fire has burned an estimated 8,000 acres and is burning 1.5 miles northeast of Blue Ridge Reservoir. Excedrin's manufacturer has recalled more than 433,000 bottles of the painkillers due to bottles having holes on the bottom of them.GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) issued the recall Wednesday stating that the bottles aren't in child-resistant packaging as required by the Poison Prevention Packaging Act since there are holes in the bottom.GSK says this could potentially lead to children gaining access and swallowing the over-the-counter drug, posing a risk of poisoning.The recall involves 50, 80, 100, 125, 200, 250, and 300-count bottles of Excedrin Migraine Caplets, Excedrin Migraine Geltabs, Excedrin Extra Strength Caplets, Excedrin PM Headache Caplets, and Excedrin Tension Headache Caplets. Facebook has removed a network of suspected Russian-linked accounts and pages involved in organizing political events in the United States. The network is the most extensive effort to interfere in American politics that Facebook has found and made public ahead of November's midterm elections.The move comes as part of Facebook's efforts to prevent a repeat of 2016, when accounts connected to a Kremlin-linked troll group posing as Americans ran rampant on its platform.In briefings on Capitol Hill, Facebook has told lawmakers that it suspects a Russian group is behind more than 30 pages advocating US political stances, according to a congressional source briefed on the matter. One page promoted a "No Unite the Right 2" march -- a counter demonstration to a planned "Unite the Right" event to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the march in Charlottesville in which a woman was killed. There was also an effort to amplify the "Abolish ICE" message pushed by liberals, the source said.Publicly, Facebook is saying it does not know for sure who was behind the network, but is saying it has "found evidence of some connections between these accounts" and accounts that had been run by Russian trolls in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election. Farm life is not easy, but sometimes that life picks you.“When we were little boys, I think it was my dad pushing us out the door all the time,” said orchard owner Curtis Rowley, with a laugh. “As you get older, it gets it your blood and you seem to stay around.”Rowley is a fourth-generation farmer in rural Utah.“Here on the side of us, we have a tart cherry orchard,” Rowley said, motioning with his hand. “We also have a gala block of apples.”However, Rowley’s specialty is peaches.“I know when they are perfect, not by color, not but size, but when I cut them open and smell them,” he said.Knowledge passed down through his family taught him how to dodge the always humming farm equipment. He knows what to do when mother nature turns on the AC. Unfortunately, there are some things that even a seasoned farming family cannot plan for.“We were still pruning when the COVID-19 pandemic hit,” Rowley said.Like many in this business, Rowley relies on outside help for planting, pruning and harvesting. He uses the H-2A government program that allows U.S. employers to bring foreign nationals in to fill temporary agricultural jobs.“As they shut down the Mexico border at the end of March, our guys happened to be right there at the time,” he explained.Rowley said luckily, the group got through, but now, it is the harvest and it’s all hands on deck.He is feeling the pinch.“It’s really tight,” Rowley said. “I won’t tell you it’s perfect.”The window for picking does not stay open for long.“We have somewhere between three and maybe four days if we’re lucky,” he said.Rowley said he has tried other options, like offering jobs to people furloughed or laid off.“They’ll come and help for a bit, but as soon as their jobs open back up, they leave and that’s understandable,” he said.The timing of the harvest also coincides with schools starting.“To hire high school kids to pick apples is just not going to happen,” he said.Rowley said they will squeeze through the fall harvest, but others will not be as lucky.“There’s a lot of people still looking for help,” he said.As for the future, this farmer said his family will remain planted, ready to weather whatever storm comes their way.“We’re planning on being here farming and continuing to grow this fruit,” he said. 2278
