DETROIT, Michigan — General Motors made a major announcement on Monday saying it will close two plants in metro Detroit as well as plants in Ohio and Canada. The plan will help save the company billion by 2020, according to GM.In a news release, the company said it will close the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Plant in Detroit and Warren Transmission Operations in Warren. Other plans closing include the Oshawa Assembly Plant in Oshawa, Ontario, the Lordstown Assembly in Warren, Ohio and the Baltimore Operations in White Marsh, Maryland.According to a spokesperson for GM, the plants will be unallocated which means they will no longer produce vehicles in those plants in 2019. Of those, 8,100 will be white-collar workers that will either take buyouts or be laid off.The company said that the moves will help continue its focus on crossovers, SUVs and trucks. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) --  A woman was hit and killed by a vehicle Tuesday night in El Cajon. The crash happened on the 600 block of Greenfield Drive near Magnolia Elementary School around 5:15 p.m.Police say it appears that the woman was walking westbound on the south sidewalk of Greenfield Drive when a blue 2004 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling westbound on Greenfield Drive and veered across the eastbound lanes and left the roadway, hitting her.Paramedics administered CPR and transported the woman to the hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. The name of the woman has not yet been released. She is believed to be in her 40's. The male driver of the Suburban, a 49-year-old resident of El Cajon, remained on scene and has been fully cooperative with the investigation, according to police. It is unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.The El Cajon Police Department is asking anyone with information regarding this collision to call (619) 579-3311. 1046

EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - A possible vehicle break-in led to a deadly shooting in the East County early Sunday.El Cajon Police received a report of shots fired just after 1 a.m. near West Chase Avenue in El Cajon. Police said a homeowner was woken up by the sound of his dogs barking in the 1100 block of Mona Place and looked outside to see someone trying to break into his vehicle.The homeowner retrieved his handgun and went outside to confront the 32-year-old suspect, police said.A confrontation between the two occurred and the homeowner shot at the suspect multiple times, police said, striking him at least once.The suspect then took off in his own vehicle and crashed into the driveway of a nearby home in the 1000 block of West Chase Ave. Officers arrived to find him dead of a gunshot wound.Police have not released the identity of the homeowner or suspect. The homeowner is cooperating with officers. It's not yet clear if that person will face any criminal charges as a result of the shooting. 1054

Dozens of trucks and thousands of volunteers delivered more than 260,000 Christmas wreaths to Arlington National Cemetery to honor fallen heroes.The rain Saturday didn't stop the day of service, which was made possible by the Wreaths Across America organization.  "If you look across this field of stones, it's massive, but we want to make sure that every individual receives a wreath and their name is spoken out loud,” says Karen Worcester, executive director of Wreaths Across America.Larry Landon, a Boy Scout troop leader, donated his time, unboxing and placing wreaths with 14 of his Boy Scouts.“Our troop unloaded trucks,” he says. “Over 36,000 wreaths were laid here at Arlington, with the help of these boys.”It’s a tradition in its 27th year, spanning all 50 states and into 26 countries.
