SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Heavy rain brought lightning and flooding to some areas of San Diego, submerging vehicles in some parts of the county.In Coronado, several vehicles became submerged on 1st St. soon after the rain began to pour. In one instance, a local helped to push a stalled vehicle out of the flooded area. Other vehicles had to wait until the water subsided in order to drive out of the area.Signs were eventually posted along 1st St. warning drivers of flooded areas. SATURDAY FORECASTElsewhere Friday, scattered lightning and thunder prompted delays to SDSU football's?game at SDCCU Stadium. In Oceanside lightning struck a palm tree, setting it on fire, viewer video showed.Power outages also hit areas of San Diego, including a major one in North San Diego County. Hail was also spotted in downtown San Diego.Scattered showers are expected throughout the county Saturday, tapering off in the evening hours. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Details about a woman’s report of a violent rape were revealed in a downtown San Diego courtroom Wednesday as a resident of a nearby halfway house was charged with the crime. Juan Guzman pleaded not guilty to attacking the woman at 1:40 a.m. December 16 at her home in City Heights. Prosecutors said the victim was sitting on her bedroom floor in front of a mirror when she heard a noise and thought it was her boyfriend. She then saw the reflection of a man she didn’t know, according to attorneys. The man put his finger over his mouth and said “Shh”, the woman reportedly told police. He threatened her with a knife and raped her, prosecutors said. The woman called police, who questioned the man at the halfway house where he lived. Investigators found the woman’s underwear and the knife underneath Guzman’s mattress, prosecutors said. A judge set Guzman’s bail at million, saying he was a danger to the community. Guzman’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 3. 1006

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- For the third day in a row, the county is reporting record-high coronavirus numbers.The county is reporting 440 new cases Friday, bringing the total to 12,401.In addition to new cases, the county also hit one of its 13 triggers. County officials said Friday that the average number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients has increased by 19 percent in three days. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — High surf forced the west wall at La Jolla's Children's Pool and Ocean Beach Pier closed Saturday.A high surf advisory was issued for the county's coast from Saturday to Sunday at 4 p.m. Surf is expected to peak Saturday with waves up to 10 feet possible along the county's coastline. Sunday, surf conditions are expected to hold through the day.Beachgoers were warned of strong rip currents and possible beach erosion during the surf event. Lifeguards asked that anyone heading to San Diego's beach hold off on water activities and watch the bluffs until the high surf passes.Because of the surf, San Diego Fire-Rescue lifeguards closed the Ocean Beach Pier on Friday just before 10 a.m. and were expected to keep the pier closed through at least Saturday morning.In La Jolla, lifeguards said the west wall of the Children's Pool was closed to visitors, as waves crashed over the barrier. 916
