SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Documents show the man accused of pummeling a teenage Syrian refugee on a trolley car has a history of run-ins with authorities.On Oct. 15, Adrian Vergara was accused of the crime after approaching the teen and asking him if he's Mexican."He responded, no I am Arab. He does not speak a lot of English, and with that response the person began to pummel him in the face," Geneviéve Jones-Wright, Legal Director, Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans, said.Tuesday, San Diego Police said they had arrested Vergara on suspicion of assault with force and violation of civil rights.RELATED: Man accused of attacking Syrian refugee aboard trolley car arrested10News dug into Vergara's background and found a history of violent incidents. In 2012, court documents say Vergara threatened a man with a billy club. He did community service in the South Metro Career Center. A letter says he worked well there with special needs students as well as general students. A certificate also showed he completed a 12-hour anger management program in 2013 and was called an outstanding professional candidate.RELATED: Teen attacked on trolley in possible hate crimeIn 2015, a case was dismissed accusing Vergara of attacking another man. And in 2016, he was charged with grand theft and burglary for breaking into the Central Library.Later that year, documents say Vergara violated a restraining order against his ex-girlfriend, kicking her front door, texting her and in a phone call, cursing at her and saying, "if you don't talk to me I'm going to go to your job and cause a scene. I don't care about my life." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Despite the early morning wake-up call, San Diegans still got out to catch NASA's first interplanetary rocket launch from the West Coast.San Diegans unfazed by the 4 a.m. start time broke out their cameras and looked up to the sky to catch the Atlas 5 rocket take off from Vandenberg Air Force Base just north.Some users took to Instagram, others to our 10News Weather Watchers Facebook page. Areas including Julian, Descanso, Pine Valley, and Mt. Laguna saw between two and 12 inches of snow Friday, depending on elevation.Saturday, chain requirements were canceled for State route 79 just north of Interstate 8 to Sr-78/Sr-79 junction in Julian, and on Sr-78 from Banner Grade to Sr-78/Sr-79 junction in Santa Ysabel. Visitors quickly arrived in Julian Saturday, where streets were clear of snow but packed with cars:Sunrise Highway, from Pine Valley to Mt. Laguna, was scheduled to reopen on the southside between Old Highway 80 in Pine Valley to Mile post 27 at 12 p.m., though chains will be required past the 5,000 elevation level. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - For comic, movie, and science-fiction fanatics, getting to Comic-Con is a dream come true.For one San Diego military family, it was extra special because experiencing it as a family was never guaranteed. "I actually brought Mason and Annabelle when he was on deployment to Syria, and he was kind of bummed he wasn't coming," said Lindsey Stacy, referring to her husband Kenton.It was on that deployment when Kenton, a Navy EOD Tech, was critically injured by an improvised explosive device (IED). He was given just a two percent chance of survival but ultimately overcame the odds. "He's just made so many miraculous recoveries, and I'm praying there's more to come," said Lindsey.While Kenton's story has inspired thousands around the world, few know of his love for all things cartoons and superheroes. Their firstborn Logan was named after X-Men's Wolverine. "I always said he's this big tough guy but he's like a comic book and Star Wars nerd underneath!"So Lindsey put out the call for help to bring Kenton to Comic-Con."People were just so willing to help make this dream come true for Kenton," she said. Both Comic-Con International and the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund stepped up to provide the family and Kenton's caregivers with four-day badges. The convention says it's dedicated to serving people of all abilities; providing a rest area, loaning out wheelchairs, and providing volunteer sign language interpreters for deaf guests. "Things are different now, and we can't be out as long, and we just tailor it to his needs, but we're just so happy to be here and have him home with us and be able to actually just reintegrate our lives back together again," said Lindsey.
