SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— Families and friends of crime victims shared stories of their loved ones at a healing circle. On October 11, 2015, Juan Carlos Munoz got the worst news of his life. "Three years ago, we got that phone call, that our son was murdered,” Munoz said. That single phone call changed the Munoz family forever. Their son, 18-year-old Juan Carlos Munoz Jr. was shot and killed while sitting in a parked car on Prospect Street in National City. “We didn't know what to do, we didn't know where to go get help, and we didn't know how to move on in life,” Munoz said. The shooter and driver got away. Lost in the confusion, heartbreak, and an endless cycle of ‘what-ifs’ the Munoz family found the group, Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice. “We don't want any parent to join this group, because that means they lost a loved one, but this group is needed for those victims have nowhere else to turn,” Munoz said. That is why he and his wife created the San Diego chapter. 'Loss' is the only criterion for membership into this exclusive group. But sadly it is growing. On the last day on national Crime Victims Right’s Week, the San Diego chapter welcomed all members. Instead of focusing on the loss, they shared stories of their loved ones to keep their memories alive. "He had a big heart, he loved people, he loved kids, feeding the homeless,” Munoz said about his son. “Junior” wanted to be a psychologist. But he never became one. Then last year, National City Police caught a break in the case. "November, we got that phone call that we've been waiting,” Munoz said. This was the other phone call that changed their lives. The two men responsible for killing Junior were arrested. "To hear that they were caught, it's a healing process,” Munoz said. He said it is a process that will never end. But talking about him reminds Munoz that Junior never really left his heart."He gives me that strength because when I feel very lonely and sad, I just feel that extra boost, like ‘You can do this dad!’“ Munoz said. 2032

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Three people are dead following a crash on Interstate 805 in University City. The California Highway Patrol says the crash happened in the northbound lanes of I-805 at Miramar Road around 4:30 p.m.According to CHP, the crash happened after a wrong-way driver drove onto the road at a high rate of speed."Through the investigation, we will try to determined where this individual, if they got on the freeway the wrong way, where they got on," CHP Officer, Jake Sanchez said. Hector Puga was on his way to Los Angeles when the car in front of him combusted. He somehow managed to escape the crash and flames. "All I can do is hold onto the steering wheel and run over everything that exploded," Puga said. He escaped with just a flat tire and broken windshield.10News also spoke to a pair of sisters who had just finished up a fun day of shopping at UTC Mall when hopped into their car. Minutes later, they endured a near-death experience. "It was like a scene from a movie," she said. "All the cars were stopping. There was smoke. Fire. Loud noise. As soon as I look up in front of me, that car other there was flying and tumbling down the freeway."They said the driver of the flipped over SUV managed to crawl out of the car.  The survivors carried him to the shoulder, where an ambulance later picked him up. CHP said he endured broken bones, but is expected to recover. All lanes on the interstate were closed for several hours following the crash. Click here for traffic updates. Though it remains unclear if police are investigating the scene as connected to the incident on I-805, Thursday night police investigated a scene at Ashley Falls Elementary School in Carmel Valley. That's where a car rammed a campus gate, according to police. Students tell 10News the driver of a sports car tried to drive onto the soccer field before peeling out of the parking lot. 10News asked the CHP and SDPD whether the cases are connected, but have not gotten confirmation.Watch live video from the I-805 scene below: 2107

San Diego (KGTV)- Small businesses around the county continue to navigate their way through the pandemic. A local Guamanian grill is using a musical twist to highlight their food, to bring in business.SMACK'N Guamanian Grill offers authentic Chamorro food. Chamorro is the native culture of the Mariana Islands region, including Guam.“All the recipes are authentic and passed down through generations,” says owner Christian Graham. The 24-year-old owner says opening the restaurant was a way to showcase his culture, which is not highly represented in San Diego.“I wanted to highlight what my grandmother, what my family has brought to the Chamorro food, the Chamorro community,” says Graham. When the pandemic hit, the newly opened SMACK'N Guamanian Grill had just opened six months prior.“Sales have dropped quite a bit between 30 to 50 percent,” says Graham. “We ended up losing about 20 percent of our staff members due to the pandemic because of their reduced hours.”As a young owner, Graham decided he needed a new, creative way to bring in business. He created a music video for the Guamanian Grill.“Just something different that restaurants haven’t done in the past.”The video, which launched a little over a week ago, already has hundreds of views on YouTube. Graham says business has increased by nearly 30 percent. He encourages other businesses to think outside of the box to develop ideas that will keep customers talking. Or, in his case, “rapping.” 1468

SAN DIEGO, Calif (KGTV) -- Saint Paul's Episcopal Cathedral opened their doors, on Wednesday night, to people of any faith to honor the victims of the New Zealand terror attack. The church's leaders invited Muslims to join them so both faiths could learn about each other and the way that they worship. The night started with a moment of silence, then dinner followed by prayer and a question and answer session. Muslims who attended the ceremony say the amount of support their community has received has been overwhelming, but not surprising.Fifty people were killed March 15th when a gunman entered a mosque in New Zealand and opened fire. 651
