New York, New Jersey and Connecticut are imposing a 14-day quarantine on incoming travelers from states with a high transmission rate of the coronavirus."We worked really hard to get the viral transmission rate down, and we don't want to see it go up," New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said. "So we are jointly instituting that travel advisory today."The travel advisory will apply to states with two criteria: States that have an infection rate above 10 cases per 100,000 people and states where 10% of the total population test positive. Both criteria are measured on a seven-day rolling average. As of Wednesday, the states that the travel advisory applies to include Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Washington, Utah and Texas. This story was originally published by Lauren Cook and Mark Sundstrom on WPIX. 846

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (KGTV) – A Massachusetts mother is speaking out after her son with autism received what she is calling a “disrespectful” award from his teachers, according to WCVB. Desiree Perez told the station her sixth-grade son Kelvin received the award for “Most likely to get lost in a crowd.” The award was reportedly signed by five teachers. The teacher at Normandin Middle School apologized to the mother, but told her teachers already left for summer vacation and that nothing could be done, according to WCVB. "I didn't think it was funny. My son didn't find it funny, either," Perez said. "He said, why was the teacher giving him this award? Because he was never lost in school." 703

New research shows women are more optimistic about aging and retirement than ever.Jane Lafave is using retirement to follow her passion. She volunteers at a refugee resettlement agency, making sure people are prepared when applying for jobs.Ironically, it took her leaving her job, to be able to do this.“My whole career really was balancing my children and my husband, you know, my work and all that kind of thing,” Lafave says.Lafave spent decades working as a certified public accountant, and she retired at the age of 57.“It was just time,” she says. “I needed more time and space in my life to do things other than work. That led her to the Ignatian Volunteer Corps, which placed her at the African Community Center. For two days a week, she helps refugees adjust to life in a new country.“This is just a great gift for me to serve other people who have had a much harder life than I’ve had,” Lafave says.Lafave isn't alone.A new survey from TD Ameritrade found women are increasingly viewing their retirement years with optimism.“The Women and Aging Survey” found 62 percent of women said retirement will be, "the most liberating phase of my life," and 72 percent said after years of focusing on others, aging finally gives them an, "opportunity to focus on myself." Eighty-three percent said aging provides a fresh chance to "reach new goals."Nearly 9 of 10 women surveyed said, 'it's important to me to retain a sense of higher purpose as I age.“I feel that this is my time in life to give back,” Lafave says. That's what she is doing here.“I think that's one of the gifts of age is that we've become much more aware of purpose and the time is short and we need to use it.” 1686

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (AP) — A California judge has refused to dismiss rape and kidnapping charges against a doctor who appeared on a reality TV show and his girlfriend. Orange County Superior Court Judge Gregory Jones on Friday said he was rejecting a bid by prosecutors to drop the case. He set a hearing for June 12 to determine how to proceed. Prosecutors under a new district attorney claimed they didn’t have enough evidence to prove the charges.Attorneys for alleged victims insisted their clients were drugged and sexually assaulted by orthopedic surgeon Grant Robicheaux and girlfriend Cerissa Riley. The case has been caught up in politics of the last district attorney election.RELATED:Orange County District Attorney drops charges against doctor, girlfriend accused of rapeOC surgeon and partner accused of drugging, raping womenSurgeon and girlfriend charged with more rape cases 900
