Property manager Brandon Scholten is seeing big price drops in some of his listings since COVID-19 hit.“We’re at ,040 but we started at above ,300,” Scholten said about a two-bed, two-bath townhouse in downtown Denver.Scholten, the owner of Keyrenter Property Management Denver, says some of his downtown rental properties are staying on the market 20% longer and that prices have dropped nearly 20% compared to the same time last year. And he believes the plummet is linked to the pandemic.“Especially with so many remote work options now,” Scholten said. “I think all of it is just going to push that pressure outward and you’ll see prices fall in the urban corridor.”What’s Scholten is seeing in downtown Denver is happening to other major metropolitan areas across the country.“The pandemic has shifted the demand for rentals away from these really expensive areas,” said Crystal Chen, a marketing manager with Zumper an apartment rental tracker.Zumper’s recent national rent report found one-bedroom rent prices in San Francisco fell nearly 12% year-over-year, the largest drop that city’s ever seen.Other major cities that saw decline in rent prices are New York, Boston and San Jose. Cities that reported some of the largest rent increases include Lexington, Akron and Anchorage.“It makes sense,” Chen said of the prices changes for rent. “Why would people want to pay a big city price tag if they can’t use the amenities and they’re stuck at home?”With more companies embracing working from home and more people looking to social distance, Chen says more renters are now leaving expensive big cities for cheaper surrounding areas.“Which we like to call the 'Brooklyn effect' since the important factors now are space and affordability,” she said.Space and affordability: two things New York City is not known for.“I’ll be honest, a lot of people are leaving,” said Lauren Feldesman, a real estate agent with Compass. “The number of lease break calls I get a week is astronomical.”Feldesman says she is seeing a huge surplus of downtown apartment rental inventory since coronavirus concerns swept the country.“It’s a tough situation,” she said. "People lost their jobs, they’re furloughed or they have their own businesses and their business is really shut down or has taken a huge hit.”While vacancy rates are going up in major metropolitan cities across the country, some downtown renters are seeing some financial relief.“People are now negotiating down 10, 15, even up to 20% of their rent because there is so many more vacancies now as than there was before,” Chen said.Without a vaccine, however, Chen predicts rental prices in downtown areas will continue this downward trend as the rental demand shifts from cities to the suburbs. 2757

Republicans officially nominated President Donald Trump for re-election Monday during an in-person roll call vote at the Republican National Convention in Charlotte.Trump cruised to victory in the GOP primary, as is typical for an incumbent president in a re-election primary. Trump picked up nearly every available delegate in his campaign, losing just a single delegate to former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld.The roll call vote was one of the few in-person events scheduled for the four-day RNC. Prior to the pandemic, Charlotte was scheduled to host all events relating to the convention, but Trump later said he would move portions of the convention to Jacksonville, Florida, citing North Carolina Gov. President-elect Joe Biden has decided whom to nominate as his secretary of the Treasury Department. Biden said Thursday that the decision will be announced just before or after Thanksgiving and that “you’ll find it is someone who I think will be accepted by all elements of the Democratic Party, progressives through the moderate coalition.”Biden spoke to reporters after participating in a video conference with a group of several governors from both parties, telling them he wanted to be their partner in the White House.The governors talked about the need for government officials to be clear with Americans about what to expect as the virus surges. He says, “They all acknowledge this is going to take a massive education campaign.”The governors, according to Biden, expressed concern that it took eight months to deliver 100 million COVID-19 tests, so how will millions more vaccines be effectively delivered.Biden called the pandemic a “national emergency” and there should be FEMA assistance and federal funding available to help states and deploy National Guard teams when needed.Biden’s treasury secretary would lead his economic team as many businesses and Americans struggle to recover while the coronavirus pandemic continues.During questioning from reporters, Biden reiterated he did not support a full national shutdown, “no national shutdown.” He said it wasn’t about a national shutdown, but about knowing what the threshold in each region is.“Because every region, every area, can be different,” Biden said. “There is no scenario I see for a national shutdown.”He also called on the GSA to ascertain the election results and allow the transition to move forward, saying that the lack of information about the current status of the federal coronavirus response could delay efforts next year. 1816

RAMONA, Calif. (KGTV) - The young man found shot to death in a Ramona home was identified by his roommate Monday as a resident of Ukraine.San Diego County Sheriff's deputies got a 911 call reporting Sunday at 8 p.m. reporting shots fired near the home on Wood Rock Lane. They found the victim dead inside.Four people live in the home, including Ben Ledbetter. He said the victim, a 20-year-old man, worked for Ledbetter's mobile detailing business for four years. Ledbetter believes he is being targeted and said someone killed his best friend out of anger."He's 100 percent good.  His heart is strong, his will is strong.  His attitude was positive.  You couldn't kill a better person.  He was the best person you could ever know," Ledbetter said.The victim's name is being withheld until his family can be notified.Deputies shut down the area near the home until 1 p.m. Monday to search for evidence. Ledbetter told 10News that detectives took his phone, truck and clothes as part of the investigation.Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact sheriff’s Homicide Detail at 858-974-2321 or 858-565-5200.   1182

President Trump's first public reaction to the cancellation of "Roseanne" is a shot at Disney CEO Bob Iger."Bob Iger of ABC called Valerie Jarrett to let her know that 'ABC does not tolerate comments like those' made by Roseanne Barr," Trump tweeted Wednesday morning. "Gee, he never called President Donald J. Trump to apologize for the HORRIBLE statements made and said about me on ABC. Maybe I just didn't get the call?"Jarrett was one of the targets of Barr's Twitter tirade early Tuesday morning.Barr compared Jarrett to "Planet of the Apes" and the Muslim Brotherhood, then claimed she was just joking.
