Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, many schools are closing. Teachers across the country are getting creative, even taking their classrooms remote. Many schools across the country have canceled classes, but not all. Some have asked students to take their learning into their homes. One Colorado charter school is making it all happen and finding some benefits in the process. Math teacher Marilyn Hartzell has turned her kitchen into an at-home classroom.“Our group of schools decided that we would try to teach online,” Hartzell said. The school sent students home with Chrome Books in order to continue their education online.Aside from the location, the school day looks very much the same. Instead of classrooms, students are jumping from one Google chat class to the next.“I think for right now, because this is super new, the engagement is super high,” Hartzell said. There are some benefits about teaching remote.“It takes a lot longer to set up these assignments online, but in the end, the grading part and the ability to analyze the skills and what the kids are understanding is a lot faster,” Hartzell said. With technology comes challenges. Hartzell says it’s hard to ask students to fix their wifi. But, if technology fails all together, she has pre-recorded lessons and posted them on YouTube. While class for many students around the country has been postponed, Hartzell and her students are embracing remote school.“We are anticipating we probably won’t come back this school year,” she said. However, Hartzell wants everyone to keep in mind that although technology is a great tool, it doesn’t teach children. 1627

A passenger on a UK-Pakistan flight at Manchester Airport caused severe delays after opening the emergency exit door in an attempt to reach the bathroom while the plane was still on the ground.Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight 702 was due to fly from Manchester, UK, to Islamabad, Pakistan, on Friday but suffered a delay of seven hours, according to the airline.Forty passengers were offloaded following the incident, during which "the exit slide deployed automatically," PIA said in a statement.A spokesman for the airline told CNN the passenger had opened the door thinking it was the bathroom, but all passengers were safe.Manchester Airport declined to comment on Friday night's incident. In May, an elderly passenger was arrested and detained in the eastern Chinese province of Shandong for endangering the safety of an aircraft, after he tried to open an emergency exit as the plane sat on the ground. In an apparent attempt to beat the queue to disembark, the passenger, identified by his surname, Song, opened an emergency door near his seat after his flight landed. And in February 2018 one of the emergency exit doors fell off a Dana Airlines plane as it landed in Nigeria's capital, Abuja.Ola Orekunrin, a doctor from Lagos, tweeted that the "exit door fell off" the Nigerian airliner as they touched down on their 6.48 a.m. flight from Lagos. 1375

A Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, neighborhood had plenty to talk about Monday morning!A large gator was found in a swimming pool at a home in the Marlwood Estates community on Graemoor Terrace, and had to be removed.Video from a neighbor shows a trapper hauling the huge reptile out of the pool and dragging it across the lawn. It's unclear how the gator got into the fenced yard, or how big it is.Vanessa Schultz said she was walking her kids to the bus stop around 7:15 a.m. Monday when she was told a large alligator was in her neighbor's pool. "It was big, really big," said Schultz, who captured images of the alligator. "I was totally in panic. When I saw the alligator I was scared."Schultz said she’s lived in Marlwood Estates for three years and has only seen a gator there once before. She said the an alligator was spotted in a lake last year behind her property.Schultz, a mother of three, thinks the gator in the pool was likely 9 feet long and over 300 pounds."It totally concerns me. So now I’m scared and I don’t want to leave my kids outside playing in the backyard," said Schultz. "I also need to check the pool and check before going outside the house."The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said the gator was 9 feet long, and was relocated to a farm."It concerns me. I don’t feel protected anymore," Schultz said. 1358
