VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - Detectives called off a suspect search in Vista after it was discovered that a juvenile accidentally shot himself in the leg Monday afternoon. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department was called to the 100 block of Paseo Marguerita in Vista around 3:45 p.m. after receiving reports of a male juvenile with a gunshot wound. While responding, deputies received information about possible suspects. Authorities found the juvenile near a small pond with a gunshot wound to the leg. Meanwhile, a neighboring school was given an order to lock down. After an extensive search for the suspects, deputies broke down a perimeter set up around the area. The boy was taken to the hospital in unknown condition. After investigating, detectives learned that the gunshot wound was self-inflicted and "appeared to be accidental." The department said it's no longer looking for any suspects. 907

WASHINGTON (AP) — First lady Melania Trump expressed support for the care that migrant children separated from their families received in U.S. detention centers and cast doubt on the authenticity of some immigrants' stories of fleeing danger in their home countries during a series of recordings aired Thursday. The tapes aired on CNN come from Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, a former aide to the first lady who released a book last month entitled "Melania and Me: The Rise and Fall of My Friendship with the First Lady." The tapes, which were exclusively aired on Anderson Cooper's show, were secretly recorded in 2018 by Wolkoff.In the tapes, Melania is also recorded bashing the Christmas decorations.The White House has been critical of the book and says the first lady is focused on her family and serving the country. 827

WASHINGTON — The federal government has restored access to Trusted Traveler Programs for New York state residents, the Department of Homeland Security announced Thursday.New Yorkers were banned from enrolling or re-enrolling in Global Entry and several other Trusted Traveler Programs in February in response to New York's "Green Light Law." The law allowed undocumented citizens the ability to get drivers' licenses and restricted federal immigration agencies from accessing Department of Motor Vehicle data.Trusted Traveler Programs affected included Global Entry, SENTRI, NEXUS and FAST, which facilitate the entry of pre-approved travelers into the U.S. using expedited lanes at airports and international borders. The ban did not affect the domestic TSA Pre-check.The statement from DHS released Thursday said the department will lift its ban on TTPs for New York residents because Gov. Andrew Cuomo and state legislators amended the law, allowing for the sharing of DMV records “as necessary for an individual seeking acceptance into a trusted traveler program, or to facilitate vehicle imports and/or exports,” according to DHS.The statement said New York continues to restrict sharing DMV records and information with U.S. Customs and Border Patrol and ICE "for other enforcement efforts."DHS said it is working with the Department of Justice to take further legal action against New York over those restrictions, as well as new criminal penalties for sharing info with CBP and ICE.“We appreciate the information sharing to CBP for the trusted travel program, which enables DHS to move forward and begin once again processing New York residents under the Trusted Travel Program," Acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf said in a statement. "Nonetheless, local New York law continues to maintain provisions that undermine the security of the American people and purport to criminalize information sharing between law enforcement entities."Cuomo said Thursday the change to the law's verbiage was made back in April."After the Department of Homeland Security announced the ban on the Trusted Traveler Program for New York residents in February, I immediately met with President Trump at the White House to discuss what — to the extent that there were bonafide concerns — needed to be done to address the issue while still protecting the privacy of all New Yorkers. VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. -- Michael Yager says he was outraged after learning his son, Jacob, bullied multiple classmates at New Smyrna Beach Middle School in Volusia County, Florida. "I figured I would teach him a lesson that would embarrass him and make him feel the way kids feel," he said.Wanting to teach his 13-year-old a lesson the frustrated father took an unorthodox approach. "I wrote the sign, I'm a bully. Honk if you hate bullies." Yager drove his son to nearby State Route 442 and parked him on a busy corner.His son had to hold the sign high."Embarrassed and kind of nervous," Jacob admitted.He says it did not take long for people to start honking.  Some even stopped to talk to father and son."I had Edgewater Police stop by, I had Volusia County Sheriffs. I had a good response from the neighborhood," Jacob's father said.But he acknowledged not everyone agrees with his parenting. "I had one woman come up and call me every name in the book. "How do you respond to parents who say putting your son out on the road is, in fact, bullying your own son?" he was asked."In my mind, I was doing the right thing, but I guess you cannot please everybody," Michael Yager said. A recent staggering statistic shows one out of every five students report being bullied. Jacob said he has learned a valuable lesson. "You never know what someone can be going through.
