PALM HARBOR, Fla. — A rare two-headed southern black racer snake was recently found at a home in Palm Harbor.Kay Rogers said her cat brought the snake into the home through the doggy door. The cat placed the snake on the carpet."She brings us presents all the time. This day, my daughter sent me a message. 'Mom, she brought in a snake, and it has two heads,'" Rogers saif. "I think this tops it, but she's an adventurous cat for sure."Rogers said her 13-year-old daughter, Avery, placed the snake in a plastic container. She said her daughter and her son like learning about reptiles."We went and got like a habitat setup for it. I was talking to a couple different reptile specialists and they were kind of helping me through what to do with him like getting him a heating pad and trying to feed him," Rogers said.The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission shared the story on Facebook. FWC said the phenomenon, bicephaly, is uncommon, but happens during embryo development when two monozygotic twins failed to separate, leaving the heads conjoined onto a single body.FWC says that both heads' tongue flicks and react to movement, but not always in the same way. Two-headed snakes are unlikely to survive in the wild, as the two brains make different decisions that inhibit the ability to feed or escape from predators."Because of the two head thing, he's very uncoordinated and couldn't get to the food very well. It was like one head would see the food and try to go for it, the other would be going the other way and pulling him back," Rogers said.The snake is currently being cared for and monitored by FWC staff."He was really an easy pet," Rogers said. I really just wanted to kind of see him thrive and have people that would take care of him and give him the best chance. I know, well my daughter's research shows they don't live well in the wild at all. PARADISE, Calif. (KGTV) -- Pacific Gas and Electric could face murder or manslaughter charges if it were found responsible for starting the deadly Camp Fire, according to CNN. The company could face a range of criminal charges if any of the wildfires broke out as a result of improperly maintained power lines. Potential charges range from misdemeanors related to clearing vegetation around power lines to "homicide offenses like implied-malice murder and involuntary manslaughter."Attorney General Xavier Becerra has yet to come to a conclusion about the company’s responsibility in the recent fires. PARKER, Colo. — When 22-year-old Hannah McNeill went to sleep one night in August earlier this year, she had no idea her life was going to be dramatically altered. She woke up, couldn't move her legs and eventually was diagnosed with a rare polio-like disease that is now on the rise in Colorado."You never think it would happen to you so you don't prepare for it," she told KMGH. Acute flaccid myelitis is a spinal disease caused by a form of enterovirus. It's extremely rare and usually impacts children, causing loss of feeling and use of the arms or legs. It can leave children with permanent paralysis. "I was trying to move my toes and my feet and nothing would happen," she explained. "I knew what I wanted to do but I couldn’t pull my leg up, couldn’t take a step."Health officials report 14 cases in Colorado so far in 2018. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said of those cases 11 people tested positive for enterovirus A71, one tested positive for enterovirus D68 and two people tested negative for any type of enterovirus."While all the patients were hospitalized, nearly all have fully recovered. There have been no deaths," CDPHE's Shannon Barbare said in a statement. But McNeill still hasn't fully recovered. "I still don't have all my leg strength which is why I'm in a wheelchair," she said."There is no vaccination or specific treatment for enteroviruses. People with mild illness typically need treatment only for symptoms," Barbare said in a statement. "However, some illnesses caused by EV-A71 and EV-D68 can be severe enough to require hospitalization."Colorado has previously had outbreaks of the less-common enterovirus types. Enterovirus D68 sickened 11 people with AFM. Enterovirus A71 caused similar epidemics to this year's in 2003 and 2005, the CDPHE said.The CDC has a web page devoted to AFM. It says that most patients afflicted by the disease are children and that scientists have not yet determined a single pathogen detected in patients’ spinal fluid that causes AFM.But in McNeill's case, she said she's not done getting back to her normal life. She goes to physical therapy three times a week and has been making progress in the weeks since she was released from the hospital. "Two months ago I couldn’t walk, now I can in my walker," she said. Police in Northern California say a nurse driving home from her shift at a hospital was assaulted after she encountered a group of protesters who say she intentionally drove into the crowd. Santa Rosa police say they are investigating but add that video evidence does not show that the woman purposely drove into about 100 people marching Saturday night. The woman told officers she was punched in the face by a man who followed her after she drove away from a “swarm” of people blocking her vehicle. Protesters initially said a teenager on a bicycle had been injured but no victims have come forward to police."SRPD officers met with several protesters who believed that the driver of the SUV intentionally drove through the crowd. There was some discrepancy as to how fast the vehicle was driving. Several protesters provided video footage of the incident to the officers on scene," police said in a statement. "The videos show the protesters taking over all lanes of traffic on Sonoma Avenue, heading eastbound. It also showed it was dark outside. In the videos, it is clear that the vehicle is approaching the crowd and you can hear several people yelling profanities at the driver. At one point, protesters surround the vehicle and the vehicle is struck by several unknown objects and a skateboard. Because the vehicles’ path was blocked by protesters, the driver tried to maneuver her way out of the crowd until her path was clear.
