LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A hospital parking lot isn’t the typical place for a family reunion, but after 69 days in the hospital, it was the perfect place for the Rael family to gather to celebrate the fact that Wanda Vigil is now going home.Wanda spend 69 days at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood battling COVID-19 — 42 of them on a ventilator.“She’s a fighter. We were told 20 days in she probably wasn’t going to make it,” brother Alan Rael said.Alan and about two dozen family members gathered in the parking lot of St. Anthony’s on Thursday as Wanda was discharged from the hospital.“It’s a beautiful thing. It’s miraculous,” sister Linda Deborah Sanchez said.Hospital workers lined the lobby in a socially distanced fashion to clap and cheer as Wanda was wheeled out. Her family was waiting outside with signs and hugs.“I am so grateful,” Wanda said.She still has a damaged vocal cord, meaning she can only whisper, and her family acknowledged that she had plenty of recovery still to go.“She still has a journey ahead of her, but she’s alive,” Sanchez said.“My heart is so happy. I’m so happy. My family has been there through thick and thin,” Wanda said.Multiple members of the Rael family were diagnosed with COVID-19, and all recovered. They wanted to send the message that though this day was a happy one, and the vaccine is now being distributed, there are still many people in the hospital fighting the virus.“It’s a serious thing. My sister almost passed away,” Sanchez said. “I ask you please wear masks, stay distanced, wear gloves, wash your hands.”The family says Wanda is most excited to see her grandchildren now that she is out of the hospital and getting to go home — just in time for Christmas.“She’s my big present under the tree,” her sister said through tears. “She’s going home.”This story originally reported by Jason Gruenauer on TheDenverChannel.com. 1881

LINCOLN PARK (KGTV) - For the first time, a member of the drill team at Lincoln High School recalls the moments she was called the N-word at Friday night's football game in San Clemente. Lillian Mixon is a sophomore at Lincoln High School and she tells 10News, "A group of us were walking to the bathroom during halftime and a little boy asked me if I do flag or twirl, and I told him no, I dance, I do drill, and he responded with the N-word." Mixon says it happened again on her way back from the restroom, "I was confused and I was like did she say the N-word to me because this is a grown woman." Immediately, Mixon says, she told two security guards at the game about what happened, "I told the security guard that they were saying racial things to us and the guy looked at me and didn’t respond he just looked and turned away." Meanwhile, Orange County Sheriffs Department released a statement on social media that reads in part, "At the game an individual told deputies that the San Clemente Middle School students were on the visitor side being rowdy and obnoxious and deputies removed them from the area." They went on to say there was no mention of inappropriate language or hate speech. After the game, following normal protocal, Lincoln High athletes and coaches were escorted back to their buses. Mixon says when she got back to the bus she felt awful, "I felt awful after the game and I had to keep it together. After the game I told myself things like this happen but they never happen to me." LEMON GROVE, Calif. (KGTV) — A woman was hit and killed by a trolley car in Lemon Grove Wednesday.The woman was hit by a San Diego MTS trolley at about 3:45 p.m. near the Lemon Grove Avenue and Massachusetts Ave. stop, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department. Deputies say the woman was dragged by the trolley and later died.The cause of the deadly crash was under investigation.The MTS Orange Line was closed between the Encanto/62nd and Spring Street Stations due to the police investigation. Buses will be used between the two stations to bridge travelers to their next stop during the closure, MTS tweeted. MTS says the eastbound Orange Line will not depart from the Courthouse Station at 5 p.m., and instead will start from 12th and Imperial at 5:11 p.m. Riders waiting to catch that train should instead take the Blue Line to 12th and Imperial to transfer to the Orange Line to continue eastbound.No further information was immediately available. 968

Las Vegas Police said they received calls about a person with a gun at the Boulevard Mall Thursday evening.No injuries have been confirmed, and no reports of shots fired. The mall was evacuated while officers made sure the person with a gun was not inside the mall. Police told the media during a press briefing that video has been obtained of a person wearing a mask with a long gun. At this time, no one has been arrested. The incident began shortly after 7 p.m. PT.  502
