SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 41-year-old documented gang member was convicted Wednesday of murder and attempted murder in the shooting death of a career Navy man and the wounding of his cousin outside a comedy club at Horton Plaza.Jurors deliberated for nearly two days before finding Arrow Morris guilty of the two felony charges, in addition to sentence-enhancing allegations of using a firearm and three counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, in connection with three guns investigators found during a search of his girlfriend's home.Morris, who is scheduled to be sentenced May 20, faces more than 80 years to life in prison for the killing of 43-year-old James Celani, who was struck in the head, neck and chest. His cousin was grazed in the leg.Deputy District Attorney Amy Maund said that on the night of June 10, 2017, following a violent confrontation with his girlfriend, Morris and his brother walked away from the club and encountered Celani and his cousin, who were walking past them in the opposite direction.Maund told jurors that either Celani or his cousin said "What's up?" to the Morris brothers as they walked past, to which Morris replied "Don't (expletive) talk to me," then began firing.The prosecutor said Morris, still in a rage over the confrontation with his girlfriend, took his anger out on Celani and his cousin, some of the first people he came across after leaving the club.The shooting happened to "a truly innocent, vulnerable victim," Maund said, "and it could have been anyone."Maund said several witnesses pointed to the shooter as a man wearing a red shirt, red hat and white jacket, which Morris can be seen wearing in surveillance footage from Horton Plaza and a 7-Eleven convenience store.Defense attorney Steward Dadmun contended that witnesses mistook his client for his brother, who, according to Dadmun, was the actual shooter. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A gunman who allegedly tried to mug a man he met online under the pretense of buying a gold chain outside a Chula Vista Costco, was behind bars Wednesday, facing a robbery charge.Albert Molina, 30, was arrested Tuesday after a scuffle in which the 23-year-old alleged victim snatched away his gun, fired a shot and held him at gunpoint while calling 911, according to police.Prior to the confrontation, Molina and the other man had communicated via OfferUp, an online service that facilitates private sales of used goods, Lt. Dan Peak said.Meeting the seller outside a Costco store in the 1100 block of Broadway, Molina agreed to buy a gold chain and provided a money order to supposedly pay for it. The two men tried to cash the check together, but found it was no good, according to police.They went to Molina's car and were sitting in it when the seller asked Molina to return his chain, which Molina was wearing, Peak said, adding "the suspect refused and pulled out a gun."The two men wrestled over the gun, which ended up in the seller's possession as he fell out of the vehicle. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 50-year-old man died after he apparently lost control of his vehicle on a Black Mountain Ranch street and tumbled about 20 feet down an embankment, police said Monday.The crash was reported shortly before 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the 17900 block of San Dieguito Road, west of Camino Del Sur, San Diego police Officer Sarah Foster said.The victim was driving eastbound on San Dieguito road at a high speed when he lost control of his vehicle and it rolled down a 20-foot embankment, Foster said.The man was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, the officer said. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 17-year-old from San Diego driving a vehicle police suspected to be stolen was shot by a detective during a traffic stop, Hemet police said Saturday.Detectives with the department's Crime Suppression Unit conducted the traffic stop at about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 300 block of North San Jacinto Street, Lt. Jeff Davis said."Detectives transitioned to a high risk stop after a records check revealed the vehicle was reported stolen from the San Diego area. An officer involved shooting occurred during the stop," Davis said.The San Diego teen was hospitalized with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and later released to his guardian after receiving treatment, according to the news release.It was unclear what led to the shooting, and a call to Davis by a reporter Saturday morning was not returned.No officers were injured in the encounter, and an investigation was ongoing. 910

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 45-year-old man got into an argument with two males at the entrance to an alley in San Diego's Valencia Park neighborhood and was shot in the back Friday evening.The shooting was reported just before 8 p.m. at the entrance to an alley at 53rd Street and Imperial Avenue, San Diego Police Department Officer Robert Heims said.The man was standing with his girlfriend when the two males walked up, argued and one male fired several shots at the victim, hitting him once in the back, Heims said.
