San Diego (KGTV)- A high school teen decided to use his passion for science and astronomy to create a virtual space camp. The teen hopes to spark the interest of kids around the county and beyond.Ryan Clairmont is a junior at Canyon Crest Academy High School. He says his interest in astronomy started at a young age.“I remember when I was 6 or 7 years old, I went to the Palomar observatory,” says Clairmont. “I was able to look through their 60-inch telescope at Jupiter and the moon. It was an eye-opening experience for me.”The teen had plans to participate in a bio-physics internship this summer, but it was canceled due to the pandemic.“At that point, I realized there must be a lot of other children in San Diego and across the country, whose in-person summer programs have been canceled for the summer.”That’s when Clairmont created Cosmoto, a free virtual space for kids.Each day kids will learn about a different space topic and participate in hands-on science experiments and activities. All of the materials for the activities are low-cost items you can find at home. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - U.S. Coast Guard rescued 13 Mexican nationals from the waters off the coast of La Jolla Saturday.The rescue, located near the Children's Pool, was reported just before 8 a.m., according to the Coast Guard. The 13 individuals, one woman and 12 men, were rescued from a panga boat and brought to shore.Border Patrol officials took the individuals into custody and officials believe they were trying to enter the country illegally.RELATED: One person hurt, possible drug packages found after boat washes ashore in CarlsbadPanga boat attempts to illegally have seen a sharp increased since 2010, according to Border Patrol, as land borders have tightened.Just last month, one person was found injured around several packages of marijuana washed ashore in Carlsbad. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— A Point Loma boy must now walk to and from school after a thief stole his custom BMX bike. San Diego Police need the public's help to find the man who took the boy's prized possession. BMX riding is 9-year-old Bradley Ramos' favorite pastime. It's a passion that runs in the family. His father, Aaron, dabbled it in as a child. So did Bradley's cousin, Tyler."This bike was actually his cousin's bike when his cousin was his age. Now his cousin is 21 years old, so the bike has been in the family for a while," Ramos said. That was, until Memorial Day morning. Bradley's mother noticed the bike was missing from their front porch."My bike and my helmet got stolen," Bradley said. The family's security camera captured a man walking away with Bradley's bike. The video shows the young man with arm tattoos wearing a hat and backpack. He looks to be wearing glasses and a distinctive white watch."It kind of sucks because I have to get rides to school now when usually, I'd ride my bike and it's way quicker," Bradley said. The bike theft is the second in as many weeks for the Ramos family. Last Monday, thieves made off with at least ,500 worth of tools from Ramos' work truck. "Since that's been happening, we've been bringing the bike in, and we didn't do it just that one night, and it was gone," Ramos said. The BMX bike has thin red wheels with a racing number plate in the front handlebars. It's not a common model, so the Ramos family is asking people to keep an eye out, and alert authorities if they spot it. To the man who made off with the Ramos' family heirloom, Bradley and his father have a stern message. "Give it back, and never come back to this neighborhood again," Bradley said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Winter weather swept through San Diego Sunday, making a dent in fire danger, according to a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Meteorologist."This is very good timing," NOAA Meteorologist Alex Tardy said, referencing the heavy rain across the county and even some snow that fell in places like Santa Ysabel in east county.Tardy said this year's heat broke records, "we exited a summer... is all time hottest for places like Escondido, Campo, Borrego Springs, Palomar Mountain. That whole corridor, which is most of San Diego except the immediate coast, the hottest period from June through October on record so that's made our fuels drier than they've ever been."The heat leaving San Diego vulnerable to a devastating fire season."We had the Valley fire in September, it could have been a lot worse, so this rain doesn't end our fire season but it puts a huge dent in it," Tardy saidThe winter forecast is fairly dry.
