SEATTLE (AP) — A U.S. judge on Thursday blocked controversial Postal Service changes that have slowed mail nationwide. The judge called them “a politically motivated attack on the efficiency of the Postal Service” before the November election. READ THE FULL ORDERJudge Stanley Bastian in Yakima, Washington, said he was issuing a nationwide preliminary injunction as sought by 14 states that sued the Trump administration and the U.S. Postal Service. He said the changes created “a substantial possibility many voters will be disenfranchised.”The states challenged the Postal Service’s so-called “leave mail behind” policy, by which trucks have been leaving postal facilities on time whether or not there is more mail to load. They also sought to force the Postal Service to treat election mail as First Class mail.Meanwhile, Postmaster General Louis DeJoy Thursday held a call with the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) Election Committee. During the call he affirmed delivering ballots is his organization's top priority between now and Election Day. 1079

SAN FRANCISCO (KGTV) -- Social media is puzzled after a strange streak appeared in the sky over the Bay Area and Sacramento. The light was, according to KRON, spotted in the East Bay, San Francisco and in several other locations throughout Northern California. The National Weather Service says the light may be a meteor. Anyone see this or get pictures from NW California? We're thinking this might have been a #meteor sometime between 5:30 & 5:40 PM. #cawx https://t.co/ku6miQeBW8— NWS Eureka (@NWSEureka) December 20, 2018 538

SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) - Border officials highlighted their accomplishments Friday, saying the past year has hit some benchmarks."The past year has taken a tremendous toll on our agency, our agents and their families," Kathleen Scudder, Acting Chief Patrol Agent for the San Diego Sector said, referring to the thousands of migrants who traveled to the U.S.-Mexico Border in San Diego County. While a nearly 14-mile stretch of new bollard fencing was completed in August, from the beach to Otay Mountain, officials said their agents faced more attacks compared to the previous fiscal year."There were a total of 156 assaults on agents while performing their duties, agents endured 72 assaults the prior fiscal year," Scudder said. While arrests at the border have been down the last six months, drug smuggling has shifted to the water, Scudder said. Agents seized 3,273 pounds of marijuana, 1,284 pounds of cocaine, 3,918 pounds of methamphetamine, 288 pounds of heroin and 108 pounds of fentanyl "that could provide a fatal dose to 24 million people."Customs and Border Protection Agents shifted their role over the past year, providing much needed humanitarian aid for migrants from caravans. While agents faced national scrutiny for their treatment of migrants, Scudder described a show of kindness."Our agents persevered, often bringing items from their homes to care for small children and babies in their custody," she said. She described an act of heroism where an agent found two boys who were lost near Chula Vista. He found one of the boys unconscious, suffering from hypothermia. He wrapped the boy in his coat and hugged him, to provide body warmth until help arrived. The boy recovered and went home six weeks later.Scudder said she expects the downward trend in illegal border crossings to continue, thanks to the wall, agreements with agencies and Mexico, and Migrant Protection Protocol in place. Border officials said migrants in custody for more than 72 hours are often held past the mandated time due to medical or processing complications. 2067

Sean Spicer doesn't believe he ever lied to the American people during his time as White House press secretary, he told ABC's "Good Morning America" Thursday."People have hard feelings toward you because they feel that you lied to the American people," Paula Faris said to Spicer. "Have you ever lied to the American people?""I don't think so," Spicer responded. 370

SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) - A first-grade teacher at Sycamore Canyon Elementary has found a creative way to stay in touch with her students while everyone is staying home during the coronavirus Pandemic.Sarah Lathers is filming herself reading stories to her daughter, and then posting it online."I just think about my kiddos a lot, and I do miss them a lot more than I anticipated I would already," she says. "I care so much about their education and them as people. And I just want to know that they're somewhere feeling comfortable and safe during all the chaos."RELATED: List: San Diego school districts offering free mealsLathers reads to her two-year-old daughter, Harper, every day. The idea of putting story time online seemed like an easy way to let her school kids know she was thinking about them. The videos already have hundreds of views. Parents and friends are clamoring for more."Parents are putting comments below saying that the kiddos were so excited to see me," Lathers says. "The kids are showing it to brothers and sisters. They get tears in their eyes, at times remembering stories in class. It's been really exciting to read and get that response."RELATED: Psychologist provides strategies to cope with COVID-19And Harper, who chimes in during the stories, has become a break-out star."They just adore Harper, and I always show them fun pictures of her and tell them all the silly things she does. So it's nice I think for them to feel that connection to my personal life," says Lathers. To see the videos, go to Lathers' YouTube Channel, which she jokingly calls, "Stories With Squishy." 1614
