Many parents are wondering how schools could look different if they reopen in the fall. The Pima County, Arizona, superintendent toured a charter school today. The principal of Da Vinci Tree Academy invited Dustin Williams to look at a preliminary model that follows CDC guidelines. Williams says, “I saw the partitions up and I said, Whoa. I haven't seen a model like that. This is one of the first models I've seen in class. But I have to accept we're in unprecedented times and safety has to be paramount for everybody.” <div class="Figure-credit" itemprop="author">KGUN 906

The Federal Trade Commission said Americans should be wary if they receive a phone call regarding their stimulus check. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the US government issued ,200 checks to millions of Americans with a number of businesses closed. The FTC is warning that scammers could potentially try to trick you out of your personal information. The agency says that fraudsters rig caller ID to make the number appear to come from a government hotline.“Government agencies usually will not call or email you — especially about something related to money. They almost always contact you by US mail,” the FTC said. The IRS is sending letters to Americans as a confirmation for receiving the stimulus check. The FTC says that scammers will claim to be calling over something such as Medicare, Social Security, or in this case, your stimulus check, and will ask for personal information to verify.“If you get a call or email from the IRS or any government agency asking you for personal information or money, that’s a scam. Hang up the phone or delete the email,” the FTC said.If you have questions about your stimulus check, you can call an IRS hotline at 800-919-9835.The IRS said earlier this month that 159 million Americans have received a stimulus check. The IRS is still working on sending out the remaining checks to qualified Americans. 1367

Every day millions of people are expecting a letter or package in the mail. The U.S. Postal Service has a feature that lets you see what’s coming to its customers' mailboxes and when — but it's allowed thieves to find ways to intercept valuable personal information.Informed Deliveryallows users to preview mail with digital images through email notifications, an online dashboard, or a mobile app.Users can sign up for Informed Delivery online or at any post office More than 13 million people have signed up for the service. However, the USPS says that in a few cases, people’s identities have been compromised. One woman in Palm Beach County, Florida who was granted anonymity for this story says it started with a simple walk to the mailbox. The woman first learned she was the victim of identity theft last Fall, and she claims scammers also tried stealing her mail last month.I She says she received a notification that she had signed up for Informed Delivery in her mailbox, even though she had never signed up for the service. Later, she received a Jet Blue credit card in the mail, for which she had also not signed up. She said she also received an alert from Bank of America about a second credit card that she had no knowledge of."Then, at that point, I said, 'OK, there’s something going on here,'" she said.USPS released this statement: In a very few cases, an individual’s identity has already been compromised by a criminal who then has used it to set up an Informed Delivery Account. "Then they are aware of when that credit card may be coming to your mailbox," the woman said.Luckily, she was able to intercept the credit card before the scammers did. Reporters referred the woman to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, which is now investigating. The woman is now taking extra precautions, actively monitoring all her accounts, and she installed a new mailbox with a lock inside."You helped to put me in touch with somebody who I felt really cared about what’s going on, because this is a serious matter. It’s really bad,” she said.Creating a fraudulent account is illegal.Customers have two options to report a potentially fraudulent Informed Delivery account (or block your address): 2233

It is with great sadness that I post about the passing of Nikita Waligwa, the sweet, warm, talented girl whom I worked with on the film, Queen Of Katwe. She played Gloria with such vibrancy. In her real life she had the enormous challenge of battling brain cancer. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and community as they come to terms with having to say goodbye so soon. May she truly rest in piece. May it be well with her soul. 455

Refoundry helps give formerly incarcerated people a second chance. Now they’re giving back in a special way, helping protect people behind bars during the pandemic.Refoundry's mission is giving people a second chance by providing skills and opportunity. The nonprofit, created by Cisco Pinedo and Tommy Safian, trains formerly incarcerated people to repurpose discarded materials into home furnishings. Their program is structured into three stages over the period, starting off with placement in a living wage job ending with mentorship that could lead to business ownership. So far, 10 businesses have started with the help of Refoundry, giving jobs to more than 125 people.Back in 2016, Scripps station WPIX in New York visited Refoundry in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Now, they’re adding another effort to their outreach as a result of the pandemic and putting the Refoundry onsite program on hiatus during the lockdown."We launched something called ‘Makers Make Masks,’ that enlists formerly incarcerated people that are homebound because of the pandemic to help combat a public health crisis by sewing reusable washable masks for the most vulnerable people in our society the incarcerated and the homeless," explained Safian. The masks are being donated to homeless support services in Los Angeles and at Rikers Island in New York, where more than 850 masks have already been delivered. The Refoundry set up 20 formerly incarcerated workers with sewing machines, pre-cut fabrics, technical support and training with the help of grants and donations.“This allows… people with the opportunity to demonstrate their value,” explained Safian “to themselves and to their community and to society ... it really does mean a lot."Once the pandemic is over, Refoundry plans on launching a second location Los Angeles and moving into a new space at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Safian said they expect to have around 45 formerly incarcerated people training at each location when they relaunch.Click here for more information on how you can help support Refoundry and their "Makers Make Masks" program.
