LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man suspected in a reported domestic disturbance led sheriff’s deputies on brief pursuit and then barricaded himself in a Lakeside home for several hours before finally surrendering.At around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, San Diego County sheriff’s officials said deputies were dispatched to a home in the 11600 block of Hi Ridge Road in Lakeside over a domestic disturbance report.According to officials, a woman had locked herself in a bedroom with her two children and was “hiding from the estranged father of the children who was inside her home.”When deputies arrived at the scene, they saw a man -- later identified as 39-year-old Dustin Banzhof -- drive away from the home, prompting deputies to pursue him. Banzhof eventually made his way back to the house on Hi Ridge Road.Deputies believed Banzhof was armed with a gun and had fired it multiples times, possibly in the direction of deputies. One deputy returned fire, forcing the suspect to head inside the home and he refused to come out.It is unknown how many shots were fired.Banzhof finally came out of the house at around 2:30 a.m. Monday and surrendered to deputies.According to sheriff’s officials, Banzhof was arrested on multiple unspecified charges. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, but no other details were released.No injuries were reported in the incident.Officials said the sheriff’s Homicide Unit is investigating the matter. 1437

LA MESA, Calif. (AP) — A man who police say brandished a gun from a van and a woman who then crashed the car with five children inside, injuring them, have been arrested. A person on Friday night reported that a man in La Mesa had a gun inside a moving vehicle. Police say an officer later tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to pull over. Shortly thereafter, the car crashed. The officer pursuing the suspect found five children inside without car seats. Police say the children suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital for further tests. 573

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. (KGTV) - The beautiful wildflower super bloom in Southern California is being met with some ugly behavior. A sea of bright orange poppies carpets the hills along Interstate 15 in Lake Elsinore. Word spread when the bloom erupted; now the area is a huge draw for visitors. "Came out here to see the beauty in nature, the poppies, they only come every few years, so you have to enjoy it,” said Lake Elsinore resident Jessica Rodriguez. She said she’s never seen so many people visit. To see the poppies, visitors must find a spot in a mile-long stretch of parked cars. Others opt to take photos from the freeway, which is illegal. "They want that perfect picture, they can get pretty ones but it’s at the expense of the habitat,” said Josh Reinig, MSHCP Reserve Manager.The parks department posted signs telling people not to step on flowers, and they created barriers to protect certain areas. "You're kind of seeing them a lot more trampled stepped on, people just sitting on them,” Reining said. Picking just one flower could mean 30 fewer flowers grow in the future. The sheriff also told the press that Paddock lost a lot of money in the past year and that could have been part of the motive for what he did. The sheriff also admitted that although the shooting did not meet the federal definition of terrorism, he personally considers it an act of terrorism. Lombardo also said that there is no evidence of other gunmen and they do not expect to arrest anyone else.In addition, the sheriff admitted that the missing hard drive has not been located and that it was common practice for Paddock to remove and hide hard drives.When asked if something like this could happen again, the sheriff admitted that it could.
