SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two separate clinical trials for phase three COVID-19 vaccines will resume in San Diego next week after AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson paused their students to find out why some participants became ill.“Pauses like this are absolutely common in large phase three trials so people should not be alarmed,” said Dr. Susan Little, the trial director for both studies that UC San Diego is set to take part in. “Studies will only resume when they are deemed safe for the study participants.”Little said not only are pauses like this common, but they also prove that the safety review process is working as it should.“Part of the reason we want people to understand that these are common is they will probably occur again, AstraZeneca with 30,000 people, Johnson & Johnson 60,000 people. It would be surprising if we don’t have another pause,” she explained.Little said once a trial is paused, it is immediately investigated by the independent Data Safety and Monitoring Board (DSMB). The board reviews the issues and determines if they are related to the trial.“In this case, the event and all other safety events were reviewed and deemed not related,” she said.The AstraZeneca study is scheduled to start on Monday, and UCSD will be using a mobile vaccine clinic that will travel from Chula Vista, La Mesa, and Imperial Beach.The Johnson & Johnson study is scheduled for Tuesday in National City, where trailers have been set up as a clinic at El Toyon Park.“We are signing people up right now to have scheduled visits next week,” said Little. “Safety will always remain the number one priority for study participants.”Those interested in participating in the study can sign up here.Participants must be 18 years or older and in generally good health. Churches around the county were forced to make changes to their services, but some embrace the new scenery.Sunday morning mass was held outdoors for parishioners at Saint Agnes Catholic Church. Members brought their beach chairs to worship in the church’s parking lot.“I love being able to see people here, gathered together, and worship together,” says Father Bill Marquis.The changes came after the governor’s announcement to stop indoor activities due to the rise in COVID-19 cases across the state. San Diego county is one a few dozen on the state’s watchlist.Saint Agnes Catholic Church says it is still offering virtual services, but it was the members who requested to have the “beach chair mass” on Sunday morning.“Parishioners asked me if we were going to have mass on Sunday, I said we were going to live stream it,” says Father Marquis. “She says we would still like to have an outdoor mass on Sunday, if possible. I said why, and she said because we want to receive communion. That was the deciding factor for me.”As many churches around the county make changes to their services, some places of worship are working with city leaders to hold outdoor services. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two people were hospitalized with serious injuries after their small engine plane crashed near Montgomery Field Airport on Thursday afternoon.The incident was reported around 4:30 p.m. near the executive airport at Kearny Villa Road and Balboa Avenue.According to the San Diego Police Department, a witness said the plane crashed behind a building near the airport and was helping the pilot.The plane had just taken off from the airport when it clipped trees and crash landed in an open space behind the Kyocera business building on Balboa Avenue, said Dan Eddy, Battalion Chief of the San Diego Fire Department Two male passengers were responsive when crews arrived but were transported with major injuries.Police said there was no active fire and no structures or vehicles were damaged.Eddy estimated at least 20 gallons of fuel spilled from the wrecked plane.The plane missed a high voltage area by about 30 feet, said Eddy.No further information was provided at this time. 1004

It includes adding galvanized bolts to the foundation, forming sheer walls and adding metal braces to certain connection points. Geologist Pat Abbott said while viewing footage from the recent quake in Mexico he noticed the collapsed buildings likely were missing up-to-date joinery between the floors and walls. “As long as [the floor and walls] move as a unit, the structure is intact,” he said. The City of San Diego offers resources to check your home on their website. They also have information on renovations for unreinforced masonry buildings, typically built before 1933. 903
