We're now entering peak back-to-school shopping season, but this is turning out to be a school shopping season like none ever before.In the year of the pandemic, many parents are holding off, unsure their children will even set foot in their schools this fall.In normal years, Target, Staples and other stores would be running big back-to-school campaigns by now. Stores would be stocked with gym shoes, white shirts, notebooks, and Clorox wipes. (Remember Clorox wipes? Have you seen any for sale in four months?)But these are not normal times.With many schools already planning for online learning this September, there's no need to buy lots of new school clothing or even backpacks.Other schools are holding off announcing any plans, which means teachers cannot come up with lists of required items yet.Why shopping could still be strongIt turns out learning at home may actually boost sales figures this year, according to the National Retail Federation.It says parents will be buying more laptop PCs and iPads then ever before. With many students learning at home even just part time, demand is soaring for new laptops to improve the Zoom call experience.The result is that the retail group predicts shopping could be 3-5% higher than last year, with more parents than ever dropping 0 to ,000 on a computer. Two kids? The meeting might give her more insight as she continues her broader talks on how to prevent such a tragedy from happening again. DeVos has said she is open to allowing guns in schools but says the decision should be left to local communities.President Trump is in favor of arming teachers, saying that too many of these shootings happen in gun free zones.“A gun-free zone is, ‘Let’s go in and let’s attack, because bullets aren’t coming back at us,'” Trump said.Students at Stoneman Douglas have been vocal for change since the shooting last month. Eleanor Holmes Norton, the district’s non-voting representative in Congress, sponsored the bill, saying it has both the facts and Constitution on its side.D.C.'s population is larger than those of Wyoming and Vermont, and its budget is larger than 12 states.Action on the bill in the GOP-controlled Senate is unlikely.If the measure was signed into law, the state of “Washington, Douglass Commonwealth” would be admitted into the U.S. and the new state would elect two U.S. senators and one U.S. representative. WASHINGTON, D.C. – Firefighters recently pulled six dogs from a burning building in Washington D.C.Crews responded to the scene Tuesday after receiving a report of a row house on fire.Four residents made it out but told firefighters six dogs were still inside. One by one, the pups were pulled out of the building.One of the dogs was found unconscious but was treated and revived at the scene. WASHINGTON, D.C. – Amid reports that the FDA is considering tougher standards for the authorization of a COVID-19 vaccine, President Donald Trump claimed Wednesday that the White House could override that decision.The Washington Post and CNN report that the FDA is expected to roll out the new standard for emergency authorization of a vaccine soon, which would make it exceedingly difficult for a vaccine to be cleared by Election Day.The FDA is expected to issue the guidance to increase transparency and public trust in the potential vaccine, The Post reports. The news comes as recent polls show Americans are increasingly skeptical about the vaccine process.As the president campaigns for reelection, he has repeatedly said he expects to have a coronavirus vaccine available to the public around Nov. 3 and that he would like to see one offered around that time.During a briefing on Wednesday, Trump warned that his administration might reject the FDA’s tougher standards.“We're looking at that and that has to be approved by the White House,” Trump told reporters. “We may or may not approve it.
