CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (KGTV) — A pair of brothers was arrested this week after police say they tried to carjack a man working on his vehicle on Interstate 5, assaulted him, and fled onto Camp Pendleton property.The brothers were traveling on southbound I-5 on Tuesday at about 10 a.m. when their Ford Mustang broke down just north of Las Pulgas Road. The pair walked to Vista Point and asked a truck driver for a ride to Long Beach, but the driver said no, California Highway Patrol said.The brothers then approached a 58-year-old man from San Diego who was working on his broken-down vehicle. The man was leaning over the engine of his vehicle with the hood up when one of the brothers placed the man in a headlock while the other brother assaulted the man in the face and body, CHP said.The truck driver who denied the brothers a lift saw the attack and came to the victim's aid. The brothers fled the area west, and climbed over a fence onto Camp Pendleton, said CHP.Camp Pendelton Police were nearby and quickly found and detained the two. CHP officers responded to the scene as well. The victim received moderate to major injuries during the assault and is expected to recover.Gonzalo Lopez, 24, and Eusebio Lopez, 19, both from Long Beach, were arrested and charged with assault and battery, and attempted carjacking. (KGTV) — Border Patrol agents this week discovered several packages of narcotics stuffed inside a vehicle's gas tank at an East County checkpoint.The agents stopped the vehicle at a Campo border checkpoint at about 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. During initial questioning, a K-9 officer inspecting the vehicle alerted agents to a possible narcotics.As the K-9 officer further inspected the vehicle, the canine directed agents toward the vehicle's gas tank. Agents say they discovered 53 cellophane packages floating in the gas tank, containing about 58.6 pounds of methamphetamine worth 4,780.The driver, a 47-year-old U.S. citizen, was arrested and the narcotics were turned over to Drug Enforcement Administration. As of Wednesday, Border Patrol officials say they seized more than 2,000 pounds of meth worth more than .6 million. 852

(KGTV) - A brush fire broke out in Carlsbad Friday morning along busy Palomar Airport Road.The fire started about 11:15 a.m. and sent a plume of smoke above the area near Palomar Oaks Way, between Aviara Parkway and El Camino Real. Flames were contained to about five acres by 1 p.m. They appeared to be confined to eucalyptus trees east of The Crossings golf course and near office buildings.Carlsbad Police reported on twitter they briefly evacuated businesses on Dryden Place about noon.
