PYONGYANG, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- A delegation of senior Chinese military officers watched the "Arirang" performance here Saturday night as part of celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of the entry of the Chinese People's Volunteers (CPV) into the Korean War front.The delegation, led by Guo Boxiong, vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission, is on a four-day visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). They were joined at the show by Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK.Before the show, Guo met Kim and a number of other DPRK leaders, including Choe Yong Rim, premier of the cabinet, and Kim Yong Chun, vice-chairman of the National Defence Commission.Guo hailed the DPRK's attention to its relations with China. He said the visit of the delegation was to implement the important consensus reached between Chinese President Hu Jintao and the DPRK's top leader Kim Jong Il.China would work with the DPRK side to make an active contribution to the continuous promotion of the Sino-DPRK friendship, Guo said.Kim Yong Nam warmly welcomed the visit of the Chinese delegation.The DPRK cherished its friendship with China. ATHENS, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- China and Greece on Saturday clinched a series of deals and agreed to further deepen their comprehensive strategic partnership as Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao is paying his three-day official visit to Greece.Wen held talks with Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou after his arrival here earlier Saturday.The Greece visit, the first stop of Wen's four-nation tour, is the first by a Chinese premier in 24 years. Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou (R, back) and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao (L, back) attend the signing ceremony of deals in Athens, Greece, on Oct. 2, 2010.Wen and Papandreou attended the signing ceremony of 13 deals after their talks, which covered areas concerning cooperation in maritime transportation, loan, telecommunication, export and cultural exchanges.The two countries also issued a joint statement on deepening their comprehensive strategic partnership.

BEIJING, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- China's meteorological authority raised the level of alert for Typhoon Fanapi to the second highest on Sunday as it nears the country's south coast.Fanapi, the 11th typhoon to hit China this year, will move westward at a speed of 20 kilometers per hour, and make landfall between Monday morning and noon at the coast between Guangdong and Fujian provinces, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) said.The shipping route linking Xiamen in Fujian Province, and Jinmen, in Taiwan, was closed Sunday with Fanapi approaching, said local authorities.CMA urged local authorities to make full preparations to guard against the strongest typhoon this year.Zhu Xiaoxiang, an expert with CMA, expected Fanapi to subside somewhat shortly after making landfall, and heavy rains were unlikely during the upcoming Chinese traditional mid-autumn festival, which will fall on September 22 this year.

NANCHANG, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese commerce official on Sunday called on foreign investors to maintain their confidence in the country, promising China would make continuous efforts to improve its investment environment.Qian Fangli, deputy director of the Department of Foreign Investment Administration under the Ministry of Commerce (MOC), made the statement at a forum during the Expo Central China 2010 that opened Sunday.Although operation costs in China were rising because of higher labor and raw materials costs, foreign investment continued growing rapidly " because improvements in China's investment environment helped lower their investment costs and boost confidence," Qian said.Further, she noted that the Chinese government would continue to improve policies to encourage foreign investors. But she did not provide further details.In the first eight months of this year, foreign direct investment in China totaled 65.96 billion U.S. dollars, up 18.06 percent from one year earlier, according to MOC statistics.The Expo Central China, scheduled to run from Sept. 26 to Sept. 28, invited economists, entrepreneurs and officials to attend. The expo seeks to promote development in central China, which spans six provinces -- Shanxi, Anhui, Jiangxi, Henan, Hubei and Hunan.
