TAIYUAN, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- China will flex its muscles to boost the low-carbon economy and green industry, in a bid to help upgrade the development mode of exports, said a senior government official Thursday.Gao Hucheng, Vice Minister of Commerce, said at an energy forum in Taiyuan, capital of Shanxi Province, that China has risen to become one of the world's largest exporters, though it is not a strong exporter yet, remaining at the low end of the global value chain.China's exports leaped in recent decades, mainly dependent upon low labor costs and sales of energy and resources.Further, China needs to put more efforts into producing high-end products and improving their quality through low-carbon and green technologies to expand the share of green products in exports, he said.The global financial crisis hurt the world economy and promoted nations to look to green industry for new growth, he said, and adding strategic new industries could be "a new growth point" for China's foreign trade.China would encourage major products, technologies and services in new energy and energy-saving sectors to tap the global market and support enterprises to invest abroad, Gao said, without giving details.Further, he said there was "no land boundary" in terms of low-carbon and green technology and expected international cooperation in this field.China was opposed to protectionist measures in any form, he added.

LONDON, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Some western commentators' critical comments concerning China's burgeoning relationship with Africa are "largely misplaced," says a Financial Times editorial.Wednesday's editorial - "China's new scramble for Africa" - said Western-led development strategies, however well meaning, did not break the cycle of under-development in Africa. Chinese investments, made for sound business reasons and boosting employment and growth, offer new hope and an alternative way forward, the editorial said.The infrastructure that the Chinese are building will also have positive spin-off effects for industries outside of natural resources. Chinese traders have brought cheap consumer goods to Africa. And, as labor costs rise at home, Chinese manufacturers may look at Africa with new interest, as a base for production, the editorial said.To the Western countries that uphold the spirit of competition, there's no reason to complain about China's strengthening its relationship with Africa, the editorial said.One reason that African governments often love doing business with the Chinese is that they are much less likely to condition their investments on improvements in government, and the pragmatic attitude of the Chinese government should be appreciated, the editorial said.

BEIJING, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- China here Thursday questioned the intentions of foreign governments who supported the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize going to Liu Xiaobo, saying those governments had no right to interfere in China's internal affairs."What is the true intention of those foreign political figures and governments who support the granting of the Nobel Peace Prize to Mr. Liu Xiaobo? Is it because they resent China's development path and hate China's political system?" Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu questioned.Ma said at a regular news briefing that whether China had chosen the best way to more forward, both politically and socially, was best judged by the development reality in China, and the 1.3 billion Chinese people had the biggest say."China's affairs should be left to Chinese people themselves," Ma said, adding that the few biased individuals with the Norwegian Nobel Committee had no right to judge China, and western governments had no right to interfere in China's internal affairs."We never interfere in other's internal affairs, and will not allow others to interfere in ours, " said Ma.The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize to Liu Xiaobo on Oct. 8th in Oslo, Norway. BEIJING, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang Friday called for greater efforts to transform China from a country with a large population into one rich in human resources."It is the 'key' to building a moderately well-off society in all respects and for modernization," said Zhang at the opening ceremony of a forum on human resource development in Beijing.He said China must uphold the principle of respecting labor, knowledge, talent and creation, and continue the strategy of building a stronger country by developing human resources.The forum was organized by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security as some 570 people from the government, higher-learning institutions and business attended the event.
