And the religious aspect,” said Eckery.The Pope’s message addressed civil unions, not the sacrament of marriage, which has to be between a man and a woman. This will not change. Eckery added that the Pope has a history of making comments of support toward the gay community, so this is nothing new.“Nothing is changing about sacramental marriage and marriage within the Church. It’s just his way of reflecting on the laws surrounding marriage and the dignity of the individual,” said Eckery.For Ambrosio, it might not be a direct change locally, but it’s a step in the right direction. House Republicans are announcing they're leaving office at a significantly faster rate than any other recent Congresses, suggesting Democrats could pick up seats in the 2018 midterm elections. On Wednesday, CNN reported House speaker, Wisconsin Republican Paul Ryan, would be next.Already, at least 42 House Republicans have announced they are retiring, running for another office or resigning outright, including Ryan. They're leaving from all over the map, from southern New Jersey to southern New Mexico.Democrats need to pick up 24 House seats to retake the majority from Republicans, who've had control of the House since 2011.Republican leadership has acknowledged it has a problem."We've got to find better ways to empower people where they feel like this is worth their time," Rep. Pete Sessions of Texas, a former two-term National Republican Congressional Committee chair who met with several members to discuss retirements, told the National Journal in September.But the retirements kept coming.While midterm elections are historically tough for the party of the President in power, it's too early to tell how things will unfold this year. But seats are opening up all over. A few seats will be filled by special elections before next November. But most won't.The locations of some of these seats were pivotal during the push for health care reform and tax reform in 2017. Reps. Frank LoBiondo of New Jersey and Charlie Dent of Pennsylvania were courted during the health care debates for their votes. Both have high numbers of Medicaid enrollees in their districts. Property taxes are high in New Jersey, and LoBiondo objected to the repeal of the state and local tax deduction during the tax reform debates.Some states are seeing higher numbers of open seats. Hunters in the Florida Everglades continue to pull out some massive pythons in an attempt to eliminate the invasive species from the Sunshine State.The South Florida Water Management District on Wednesday posted a video that showed famed python hunter Dusty Crum with one of his recent catches -- a 16-foot, 11-inch whopper!The snake broke Crum's own record for the longest snake caught as part of SFWMD's Python Elimination Program.The district said Crum captured the python late last Thursday.Since the program began in late March, hunters have removed 638 invasive pythons from the Everglades. 624

In a 5-4 decision announced Monday, the Supreme Court struck down a Louisiana law that severely restricted abortion in the state, marking a win for abortion rights advocates.Chief Justice John Roberts, a crucial conservative swing vote, sided with liberal Justices Breyer, Ginsburg, Sotomayor and Kagan in issuing the majority opinion.According to The Associated Press, Roberts has favored restrictions on abortion in two previous Supreme Court rulings.The decision strikes down a Louisiana law that would have required physicians who perform abortions to also have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of the abortion clinic.
