A Maryland woman says she failed a drug test the day she gave birth to her daughter and was reported to state social workers, all because she ate a poppy seed bagel for breakfast.WBAL-TV in Baltimore reports that Elizabeth Eden ate a poppy seed bagel for breakfast on the morning of April 4. She went into labor later that day and went to St. Joseph Medical Center in Towson to deliver her daughter.However, while she was in labor, a doctor told her she had tested positive for opiates.Poppy seeds come from the same plant which is used to make opium, heroin and other drugs, so it's common for drug tests to pick up on trace amounts of opiates.However, while the federal government measures a positive test at 2,000 nanograms a milliliter, St. Joseph Medical Center measures a positive test at 300 nanograms a milliliter. The hospital says the lower threshold for a positive test means they can treat more children born with drugs in their system — the Baltimore Sun reports that the number of babies born with drugs in their systems increased by 56.6 percent between 2006 and 2015.Eden says the hospital refused to release her daughter to her for five days following the false positive. She also says she was assigned a caseworker, who promptly dropped the case when learning of her breakfast on the morning of April 4.Eden isn't alone. In 2017, an Edgewood, Kentucky woman was assigned a social worker after she tested positive to opioids, saying she ate bagel chips with poppy seeds shortly before giving birth. A New Jersey man who won a 8 million Powerball jackpot in 2013 has been charged with sexually assaulting a child.According to NJ.com, Pedro Quezada of Wayne, was charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault and one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.Prosecutors say Quezada assaulted the victim for three years when the child was between the ages of 11 and 14 when he lived in nearby Passaic.Quezada won a 8 million jackpot in March 2013 when he purchased the winning ticket at a Passaic liquor store. He took his winnings in a lump sum, meaning he took home 1 million after taxes.At the time of his win, Quezada told CNN the money would not “change his heart.”At the time of his Powerball victory, CNN reported that Quezada was married with five children. However, it was later revealed that Quezada was not actually married — though the woman who he claimed was his wife sued him, saying the lottery ticket was purchased with the couple’s shared assets. A New York taxi kingpin and business partner of President Donald Trump's attorney Michael Cohen has agreed to cooperate with the government, The New York Times reported Tuesday.The Times said the agreement for Evegny "Gene" Freidman would allow him to avoid jail time and would have him work with prosecutors in both the state and federal investigations.Word of the Freidman agreement came just days after news broke that Jeffrey Yohai, the son-in-law of former Trump campaign chief Paul Manafort, had reached a plea agreement.Freidman, known as New York's "Taxi King," was indicted on state charges last year by then-New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, who alleged Freidman and others failed to pay million in MTA surcharges between 2012 and 2015.Freidman's agreement, given his ties to Cohen as a business partner, may put still more pressure on the Trump associate and attorney, who faced federal raids in April before the Justice Department announced it had been conducting a months-long investigation into him.CNN previously reported the FBI searches included a request for documents related to Cohen's ownership of taxi medallions and sought informationabout taxi owners who had financial dealings with Cohen.Cohen's role as Trump's personal attorney has come under increasing scrutiny, due in large part to the payment he conceded facilitating to the adult film star Stormy Daniels. A North Texas woman took her battle against breast cancer public, allowing the world a front row seat in the operating room while doctors perform her lumpectomy.Before heading to the hospital today, DeSoto resident Sonia Johnson spent a lot of quiet time with her family. But this morning the 50-year-old will be seen by the world as she undergoes breast cancer surgery live on Facebook.It was last December when, during a routine visit to the doctor, Johnson found out she had a tumor on her breast. It was in that moment that she became determined to use faith and positivity to beat a disease that affects one in eight women.“It’s an emotional journey, but you can’t sit,” she said. “You’ve got to be mentally ready to walk this journey. It’s a fight, it’s a fight all the way.”Johnson found she’s not alone in her fight and has gotten scores of supportive messages from breast cancer survivors — forming a sort of sisterhood. She says sharing her journey on Facebook is one way she can help others fighting the same battle.Breast surgical oncologist Allison DiPasquale, MD, will be performing the surgery. She spoke about her admiration for Johnson when talking with CBS 11 News. “This patient is courageous, she’s amazing. She’s putting her body out there for people to say, ‘Wow, I’m going to go get my mammogram and I’m going to make sure I don’t have cancer.’”Johnson said she hopes that by sharing her experience online others will get a better understanding about one of the breast cancer treatments available.“Other people paid it forward before me and now I’m pushing it and paying it forward for somebody else,” she said.During Johnson’s procedure, doctors will go through her armpit to remove her lymph nodes and cancer through the same incision and when the surgical gloves and gowns are gone Johnson plans to join that sisterhood of breast cancer survivors.“I will be able to say ‘I had cancer’. Right now I say I have cancer. A Russian woman who needed surgery to address ovarian cysts was given Fedyaeva formalin, a solution that contains formaldehyde, which is used to preserve bodies, Russian state media organization RT reported.Ekaterina Fedyaeva, 28, was told by doctors the procedure would be routine. Little did she know it know that the laparoscopic procedure to remove the cysts would kill her. Fedyaeva was supposed to be given saline solution, but instead was given the formaldehyde-type solution. Fedyaeva then complained to her mother, saying that she was "dying."It turns out she was right. Doctors tried to wash her abdominal cavity of the formaldehyde.Her organs began failing. In response, doctors tried to keep her alive, but she died last Thursday. Russia's minister of health, family and social well-being Rashid Abdullov said, "I express my sincere condolences to the relatives and relatives of Catherine Fedjaevoj. It's a big tragedy! We will provide all the necessary assistance to the family. All the guilty officials have already been held accountable, the investigating authorities continue to work."It is unclear how doctors mixed up the two solutions. Authorities in Russia have opened a criminal investigation into the surgery.   1341
