(KGTV) — It wasn't long ago police department began throwing down the challenge to other agencies to pick a song a sing.The "lip sync challenge" has bounced between departments from coast to coast since about June. Now, California Highway Patrol officers are getting in on the challenge.And it's appropriately Californian.CHP officers put together a six-minute music video of their lip singing skills, even recruiting "CHiPs" star Erik Estrada back to the force to help out.RELATED: Ohio police department raises 'lip sync challenge' bar with doughnut?videoThe video begins with a group of officers trying to decide which song to pick, before CHP mascot Chipper calls in Estrada to set the stage."Listen up, I know you're the best, you're elite, and you're tops in cops but I'm from Hollywood, and this is how we do it. (KGTV) – The company that operates Rubio’s Coastal Grill restaurants has filed for bankruptcy protection, citing the COVID-19 pandemic as one of the reasons for its decision.Reuters reported Monday that the Carlsbad-based company filed a restructuring plan that includes a plan to reduce its debt.The company confirmed in a statement that it “filed a prepackaged plan with the acceptance of its lenders, and voluntarily filed petitions for protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware.”Additionally, Rubio’s said they expect “to complete its restructuring by the end of the year." The company has 47 locations in San Diego County and more than 1,000 local employees."It was COVID that got us here, a very extraordinary situation, such as that we find ourselves in this position," co-founder Ralph Rubio said in an interview. "The great news is all of our restaurants are open, everybody is still employed, we're still operating just as we were before."Marc Simon, president and CEO of Rubio’s, said: “Rubio’s entered the year in a strong financial position, which has helped the Company remain flexible in navigating the unprecedented impact of the pandemic. (KGTV) -- While COVID-19 has taken the lives of thousands across the country, one couple has come up with a way for their memories to live on. Rebecca Heiss and Dermot Jevens, from South Carolina, came up with the idea to create a site to honor those who lost their battles to the virus. “This is going to be an entire community built memorial,” says Jevens.“It was frustrating and sad and scary, and realizing that these were people,” says Heiss. “They weren’t just numbers.”“Mourning America” launched in late March. So far, there are 4,500 names posted. The couple has received nearly 100 submissions from families all over the U.S., with the picture and story of their loved one. The couple says some families haven’t been able to give their loved ones a proper memorial. “This lady’s mom passed away in a nursing home. She wasn’t able to be there with her,” says Jevens. “She wasn’t able to go to the funeral. You can feel that pain and almost that release as she was writing and sending in the story.”The couple has not received any submissions from San Diego yet, but they say their mission is to honor each person who has passed from the virus. (KGTV) -- Reopening guidance could be coming soon for California’s theme parks, which have been shut down since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in March.A spokesperson for Gov. Newsom and the state’s Department of Public Health said guidelines for reopening theme parks, concerts, sporting events, and other mass gatherings could be issued this week.Some expect an announcement to be made as soon as Friday.Earlier this week, Disney announced 28,000 employees would be laid off at Disneyland and Disney World parks. Company officials placed part of the blame on Newsom for failing to issue reopening guidelines for theme parks sooner.When asked if he was giving in to pressure from Disney and other theme parks to reopen prematurely, Newsom said, “We are not putting the health and safety of people visiting the state or recreating the state at the parks at risk.”Michelle Steel, chairwoman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors, criticized the state for “dragging its feet” on issuing reopening guidelines for theme parks, specifically Disneyland in Anaheim and Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park.“We need these parks to reopen not for our children and tourists but our businesses and communities that rely on them,” Steel said. “I am disappointed at the lack of progress California has made in this and every other area while other governments have made safe reopenings of their theme parks. California continues to delay and this has resulted in the loss of 28,000 jobs … All of this could have been avoided.”The California Attractions and Parks Association said they have seen a draft of the state reopening guidelines, but they are urging Newsom to make some changes.Downtown Disney and Universal CityWalk have reopened outside their respective theme parks with modifications.SeaWorld San Diego reopened in August on a limited basis, requiring reservations for visitors and limited access to exhibits.
