ISLAMABAD, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- Chinese ambassador to Pakistan declared on Sunday that the Chinese government will provide an emergency humanitarian aid worth 30 million RMB (4.7 million U.S. dollars) to Pakistan to help its relief efforts.In light of the immense damages caused by the floods in some parts of Pakistan, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Liu Jian called on Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar on Sunday to express sympathy and solidarity of the Chinese people toward Pakistani people and declared that the Chinese government will provide the emergency humanitarian aid.Diplomats and staff of the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad have recently voluntarily donated 600,000 rupee (about 6860 U.S. dollars) to the people who hit by the floods. The Chinese ambassador handed over the donation to Pakistani side on Sept. 8.On Sept. 9, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi sent a message to his Pakistani counterpart H.E. Hina Rabbani Khar, expressing his profound condolence to the victims and sincere sympathy to the affected people of the floods.The Chinese foreign minister said that China, as Pakistan's close friend, feels as much pain as Pakistan does and is ready to provide help to the best of its ability, in line with Pakistan's needs. He is convinced that the Pakistani people will definitely prevail over the natural disaster and rebuild their homes at an early date.

He also said that China's track record of sharing knowledge with the World Bank was creating a "catalyst for consensus" and that placed the institutions in good stead to benefit from China's economic consistence."The Chinese policy mix includes a tool box of administrative measures ... It took nine months to hit one billion downloads and five billion in June 2010. In January, Apple gave a 10,000-U.S. dollar App Store gift card to a user who downloaded the 10 billionth application.In Thursday's statement, the Cupertino, California-based company said it had paid developers 2.5 billion dollars to date.Apple's mobile market place is far ahead of Google's Android Market. WASHINGTON, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Eating a low-carbohydrate, high- protein diet may reduce the risk of cancer and slow the growth of tumors already present, according to a study published Tuesday in Cancer Research, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.The study was conducted in mice, but the scientists involved agree that the strong biological findings are definitive enough that an effect in humans can be considered."This shows that something as simple as a change in diet can have an impact on cancer risk," said lead researcher Gerald Krystal, a scientist at the British Columbia Cancer Research Center.Krystal and his colleagues implanted various strains of mice with human tumor cells or with mouse tumor cells and assigned them to one of two diets. The first diet, a typical Western diet, contained about 55 percent carbohydrate, 23 percent protein and 22 percent fat. The second, which is somewhat like a South Beach diet but higher in protein, contained 15 percent carbohydrate, 58 percent protein and 26 percent fat. They found that the tumor cells grew consistently slower on the second diet.As well, mice genetically predisposed to breast cancer were put on these two diets and almost half of them on the Western diet developed breast cancer within their first year of life while none on the low-carbohydrate, high-protein diet did. Interestingly, only one on the Western diet reached a normal life span ( approximately 2 years), with 70 percent of them dying from cancer while only 30 percent of those on the low-carbohydrate diet developed cancer and more than half these mice reached or exceeded their normal life span.Krystal and colleagues also tested the effect of an mTOR inhibitor, which inhibits cell growth, and a COX-2 inhibitor, which reduces inflammation, on tumor development, and found these agents had an additive effect in the mice fed the low-carbohydrate, high-protein diet.When asked to speculate on the biological mechanism, Krystal said that tumor cells, unlike normal cells, need significantly more glucose to grow and thrive. Restricting carbohydrate intake can significantly limit blood glucose and insulin, a hormone that has been shown in many independent studies to promote tumor growth in both humans and mice.Furthermore, a low-carbohydrate, high-protein diet has the potential to both boost the ability of the immune system to kill cancer cells and prevent obesity, which leads to chronic inflammation and cancer.

PARIS, June 14 (Xinhua) -- Solar Impulse, a Swiss solar-powered aircraft, finally arrived in Paris on Tuesday after three days' delay, ready for a debut at the biennial International Paris Air Show.The 1.6-ton solar-powered plane was expected to land in Paris on Saturday but technical problems and bad weather forced it to turn back to Brussels.The plane took its first international flight from Switzerland to Brussels on May 13 and then marked its second international flight to Paris. It has 12,000 solar cells mounted on the wings, which provide momentum for its four electric motors.Solar Impulse is the first aeroplane designed to fly day and night without requiring fuel and without producing carbon emission. The 64-meter-wingspan (as wide as an Airbus A340) can fly at extremely slow speed and has a weight equivalent to that of an average family car.Regarded as a "special guest" in the show, Solar Impulse made a historic 26-hour day and night flight without fuel in July 2010.During the Paris air show from 20 to 26 June, visitors can enjoy a close look at the innovative plane on ground every day and if weather condition permits, flying displays will take place.According to Paris Air Show organizers, 59 of the top 100 companies in the air industry worldwide will be present.
