But this time is not totally stress free.That's because in the back of Griffith's mind is the fact that it's been more than two months since she filed for unemployment - yet to receive a dime."Everyday it's something that I constantly think about," she says. "It's eating at me, and I'm worried that it's not going to come."Cindy Griffith lost her job at an Encinitas restaurant when Coronavirus restrictions took effect. Matthew lost his restaurant job in Del Mar.Both filed for unemployment.Matthew got his right away - giving the family a much needed lifeline.Cindy, however, got a letter saying she needed to verify her identity - and the Social Security Number on the form was way off."I said there's no way I typed this in like that," she said. "I went back and checked my records and you could see that I put it in right."That letter came in early April. Cindy Griffith says she's called the E.D.D. hundreds of times since - even keeping her documents in Wilder's stroller in case she gets through on a walk.She confirmed the EDD received her identity information, but is always told her benefits are pending. The EDD reports that identity verification is its primary backlog. That division has grown from 13 people to 218. The agency training an additional 150 to help with the demand. Meanwhile, Griffith is falling behind on bills - and using credit card debt to get by."The hardest part is getting no answers," she says. "I think that's been the most frustrating, it's like what can I do?" 1680

SAN DIEGO — The county has stepped up enforcement of its latest round of Coronavirus restrictions, which took effect Saturday.Nearly 20 organizations - bars, restaurants, yoga studios and churches - were served with cease and desist notifications for not following the purple tier, which mandated outdoor only service to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. At Reach Yoga in Pacific Beach, owner Alena Snedeker got a violation for holding socially distanced indoor yoga classes as late as Monday. She said she was aware it was no longer allowed, but was doing it as she transitioned to an outdoor location."With being open for two weeks, we can't turn the machine off," she said. "If we turn the machine off, we lose our business forever."Reach Yoga, which did not hold classes Tuesday, will rent outdoor space at the nearby Soledad Club, which it will have to share with a karate studio and church. "A yoga studio runs a lot differently than a bar or a restaurant or a church, so to have the same blanket over every single business. I don't feel that's right," Snedeker said. At The Landing Bar in El Cajon, owner Steven Fort also got a violation , as a group watched football indoors on Sunday."As long as they're not shutting me down, I'm complying," Fort said.Fort said he was confused over when the purple tier started, but is now fully outside.Meanwhile, in Pine Valley, Major's Diner continues to publicly defy the order - without a cease and desist order. Harry Kim made the executive decision to keep north park diner open on Christmas for the first time. And to say the restaurant is stretched thin would be an understatement.“it’s hitting us really hard,” Kim said. “When we had outside dining I had employees, five of them. Right now I just work with me and my wife.”Kim has owned the diner since 2007, and says opening on Christmas provides an opportunity for more sales if everyone else was closed. He says it paid off with some extra takeout orders and others through UberEats and GrubHub.Meanwhile, at downtown's Gaslamp BBQ, a skeleton crew handled a steady stream of takeout orders. Owner Tarik Marogy always keeps the restaurant open on Christmas, so 2020 would be no different.“We know we are going to be busy today because a lot of the restaurants usually close,” Marogy said.Marogy says the barbecue has been hit hard in the pandemic. He reduced his employees from 20 to 8. In all, nearly 110,000 San Diegans worked in local restaurants in November, down more than 15 percent compared to November 2019, according to the latest state data available. That was before the most recent shutdown order went into effect.Margoy said, however, that Christmas night orders exceeded his expectations.“I didn’t expect that I'm going to have that much business because of the Covid. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 19-year-old man was hospitalized Saturday morning with nine stab wounds suffered in a fight with another man in the Egger Highlands area of San Diego.Just before midnight Friday, the victim and the suspect got into a shouting match while standing in the doorway of the suspect's house in the 1700 block of Elm Avenue, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.The argument turned physical and the victim thought he was being punched, but it turned out he was being stabbed, Heims said. The victim was stabbed in both arms, the chest and stomach.He was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening wounds, Heims said.Officers responded to the suspect's home and arrested Homero Lunaosuna, 19, and recovered the knife used in the attack, Heims said. 809

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. (KGTV) -- Three Camp Pendleton Marines were stabbed during a fight Saturday in San Clemente, a sheriff’s official confirms.The fight happened around 1 a.m. Saturday in a parking lot on the 200 block of El Camino Real.The three Marines, two aged 21 and the other a 23-year-old were involved in a fight with two men and a woman.RELATED: Woman finds Marine Corps ring on Florida's Siesta Key, hopes to find ownerDuring the fight, one of the men pulled out a knife and stabbed all three Marines.
