CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) -- A celebration of life was held in Coronado Thursday night for Nicole Quitasol, the San Diego woman killed in a boat fire off Santa Cruz Island. The event was held at Nicky Rottens, and restaurant officials said the celebration of life was also to help the fundraising efforts to support Quitasol’s family. Quitasol was on the dive trip with four family members, her coworkers posted on Facebook. "Nicole has worked with our Nicky Rottens Coronado family for years, and she will be remembered as an adventurous & loving soul," wrote Bryn Butolph, who described Quitasol as smart and loving.RELATED: San Diego woman killed in deadly Conception boat fire off Santa Barbara"She will be greatly missed," Butolph added. CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) - About 100 people came to worship at Glorietta Bay Park in Coronado on Friday. The 'Saturate OC' event was held by a Southern California congregation. They hold worship services and baptisms along beaches and waterfronts. It is the second 'Saturate OC' event in San Diego County in back to back weeks."It would be hard to understand if you're not a believer, but we prayed about it, and thought this was the next place we were supposed to come," said Parker Green, co-director for 'Saturate OC.'They held a worship service in Oceanside on Aug. 28, which drew hundreds of people. There were people seen not wearing face coverings or social distancing at that event.Green says they have face coverings at the event to people who want them. They also provide hand sanitizer. He also added he doesn't know of one person that got sick from their events."People can wear masks or not, we tell them to bring masks on our social media, but I think the crowd we tend to draw would be folks that would wear a mask in a public setting, especially outside," he said.People at the Coronado worship service appeared to be more spaced apart than those in the Oceanside event.Members of the county's Safe Reopen Compliance Team were at the event talking to people. They were also at the Oceanside event. 1318

Color no one surprised: These days, even a new crayon name draws criticism.Crayola announced the name of a new blue crayon this week: "Bluetiful," which beat out four other names with 40% of the vote in an online naming contest launched in July. But critics say the name will teach children a nonword. It prompted a hue and cry (pun intended) on Twitter."Of thousands Eng & foreign words for new blue hue, @Crayola mangles real word, fails at teaching kids color name AND spelling," wrote one user."Kids are gonna be so confused with color names now," wrote another."The dumbing down of US continues as Crayola replaces 'Dandelion' w/'Bluetiful'. 90k submissions; picked 1 that's not a color, object or word," another Twitter user wrote. The Easton, Pennsylania-based company announced in March that its yellowish Dandelion crayon would be retired after 27 years, to be replaced with a new bright blue one in its 24-count box. Bluetiful is Crayola's 19th blue color and will be available "soon," the company said. The contest offered five possible names: Along with Bluetiful, voters could pick from Blue Moon Bliss, Dreams Come Blue, Reach for the Stars and Star Spangled Blue.Plenty of fans praised the new name, and others defended it."In Kindergarten we teach nonsense words because they are important for learning to read," Catherine Baublitz, a kindergarten teacher in Atlanta, told CNN. "Nonsense words are parts of whole words. (They) help with learning syllables and help to build confidence in decoding.""I like it @Crayola Get kids to discuss language use in creating brand & products. It's not about spelling. It's about #Creativity," wrote one.Another called it his "new favourite portmanteau word," and others declared it simply "beautiful."The-CNN-Wire 1779

CLAREMONT, Calif. -- A family wants the FBI to get involved after their son was stabbed to death in Mexico, according to KABC.Their son was in Mexico celebrating a friend’s birthday when he was killed, and now his family believes the Mexican government is trying to cover up the murder. Taylor Meyer left for Mexico for his friend’s 30th birthday.Photos show the 27-year-old having a good time with his friend’s in Playa Del Carmen. On Friday, his parents got a call informing them their youngest son had been murdered. They first thought it was a cruel hoax, but later discovered it was real.Kris and Krista Meyer say their son was stabbed to death and that a witness told police that three people carried out the attack, taking his wallet, shoes, watch and iPhone. The couple is now searching for answers and wants the FBI to investigate. They say that Mexican authorities are trying to cover up the murder so not to scare tourists away. Sunday, 200 of Meyer’s friends gathered at Hermosa Beach for a candlelight vigil to remember the fun, loving man who brought so many of them together. 1097
