HUA HIN, Thailand, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- With a delighted and relieved smile, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao waved to the crowd on Sunday at the airport in Thai resort Hua Hin before he left for home.     The premier has successfully finished his visit to Thailand after attending a series of summit meetings related to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) during the past three days. Wen had been deeply convinced that enhancing cooperation and working together to overcome the difficulties of the time were in accord with the fundamental interests of East Asian peoples.     Once we had sincerity, determination and confidence, the hope would not be dashed, the premier said.     During the following six months, the Chinese government decided to set up a 10-billion-U.S. dollar China-ASEAN investment cooperation fund, establish the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area, and provide financial support to ASEAN countries. Trade between China and ASEAN has entered into the period of recovery since September. Wen held a series of meetings with leaders of other countries during the ASEAN summits, with his meetings with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd having been widely followed. BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States underlined that each country and its people have the right to choose their own path, and agreed to hold the next round of human rights dialogue in Washington by the end of February 2010, said the China-U.S. joint statement issued Tuesday.     According to the statement, the Chinese and U.S. sides agreed that all countries should respect each other's choice of a development model.     "Both sides recognized that China and the United States have differences on the issue of human rights," said the statement, "Addressing these differences in the spirit of equality and mutual respect, as well as promoting and protecting human rights consistent with international human rights instruments, the two sides agreed to hold the next round of the official human rights dialogue in Washington D.C. by the end of February 2010."     The two sides agreed that promoting cooperation in the field of law and exchanges on the rule of law serves the interests and needs of the citizens and governments of both countries, and decided to convene the China-U.S. Legal Experts Dialogue at an early date.

BEIJING, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter Scale hit a border area between northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and the northern Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Saturday afternoon, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.     The epicenter was at 38.2 degrees north latitude and 106.6 degrees east longitude.     Xinhua reporters in Yinchuan, capital of Ningxia, said tremor was felt in the downtown area.     No casualties have been reported.

BEIJING, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese political advisor Jia Qinglin said here Wednesday that China will strengthen political mutual trust, expand substantial cooperation and promote common development with Belarus.     Jia, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee, hailed bilateral ties during a meeting with Vladimir Andreichenko, chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus.     He applauded the cooperation with Belarus on politics, economy, culture and international affairs, saying the two countries supported each other on some major issues of common concerns and brought about tangible benefits for the two peoples.     Jia pledged to promote exchanges and cooperation between the CPPCC and Belarussian parliament in a bid to further bilateral ties.     Andreichenko commended China's economic growth and increasingly important role on the international arena, saying that his country and the Belarussian parliament will further cooperation with China.

GUANGZHOU, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping attended the opening ceremony of the 2009 UCLG World Council Meeting & Guangzhou International Sister Cities Conference, which gathered more than 1,000 representatives from about 210 cities and local organizations of more than 60 nations.     Founded in May 2004, the United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) is the largest local government organization in the world. The mayor of Guangzhou is the current co-president of UCLG. Xi said the UCLG has become an important platform for multilateral exchanges and cooperation as well as a bridge of friendship for global cities. He believed that the UCLG would be able to integrate wisdom and strength of urban planning and management from different nations, and play a positive role in promoting peace and development of the world. The urbanization rate was only 17.9 percent in 1978, and the figure jumped to 45.7 percent in 2008, a growth of one percentage point per year.     Xi also explained the policies that China has taken to respond to the global financial crisis. He said although the world economy had showed some positive changes, the full recovery would still have a long way to go.     China would do its best to stabilize its own economic development, while playing an active role in international cooperation in order to promote the recovery of world economy, he noted.     He reiterated that China would continue to support the developing countries with a responsible attitude and fulfill its commitments of providing foreign assistance so as to push forward the realization of UN Millennium Development Goals.     Beijing Municipal government and the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) jointly held the World Council Meeting of UCLG in June, 2005.
