American Airlines said Wednesday evening that it was moving ahead with furloughs for 19,000 employees as CARES Act stimulus funds expire.In a letter to employees, American Airlines CEO Doug Parker said the furloughs would begin Thursday."Despite enormous bipartisan support for an extension of the (Payroll Support Program), our elected officials have not been able to reach agreement on a COVID-19 relief package that would enable this extension," Parker wrote. "As a result, tomorrow, we will begin the difficult process of furloughing 19,000 of our hardworking and dedicated colleagues."Parker added that he spoke with Treasury Sec. Steve Mnuchin on Wednesday, who told him that the White House is continuing to negotiate with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on another COVID-19 stimulus package that would include further stimulus for the airline industry."Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that any of these efforts will come to fruition," Parker wrote. "However, in an effort to encourage cooperation and keep hope alive for our team, I informed the Secretary that if these efforts to extend PSP are successful over the next few days, we will reverse our furlough processes and recall any impacted team members."Past by Congress and signed into law by President Donald Trump in March, the CARES Act included billion in stimulus for the airline industry in March. An Uber Eats driver wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of a customer over the weekend shot the victim in self-defense, the suspect's attorney said Monday.Robert Bivines, 36, turned himself in to authorities around 3 p.m. on Monday after police secured a warrant for his arrest on a felony murder charge, Atlanta Police said.Bivines was arrested and taken to the Fulton County Jail and booked on charges related to the killing of Ryan Thornton, 30, of Atlanta.Police said the shooting happened about 11:30 p.m. Saturday in the city's Buckhead neighborhood after the victim, identified by the Fulton County medical examiner's office as Thornton, placed a food order via his smartphone app."The victim went down to meet the driver, received his order and began walking away from the vehicle," police said. "As the victim was walking away, it appears words may have been exchanged between he and the delivery driver. An Arizona man says he discovered something disgusting in his Culver's butter burger, and now he wants answers.Najib Anek says he bit into a fake fingernail that fell off the finger of an employee who made his food at the Culver's in Peoria. "It was inside the sandwich halfway through," Anek said. "It was crunchy man. I threw up three times."Anek said he complained to management, and they apologized.He also said the store's management watched the surveillance video and saw the female employee making his burger without gloves and missing a fingernail.Maricopa County food inspection records show the Culver's location has all "A" ratings going back to 2015. Now, that could change. "Yes, I called the health department, and I have a complaint number," Anek said. The Culver's manager said their insurance is looking into the situation and the offending employee is on leave.  958

An Ohio couple was stunned to find a Nazi symbol on a pizza they picked up from Little Caesars Pizza Saturday night.Jason Laska was running an errand for his wife and picked up a pizza from the Little Caesars in Brook Park.“I walked in. I said, ‘What do you guys have left?’ And they said a pepperoni and a cheese and I said ‘give me the pepperoni,’” Laska said.He told WEWS he paid for the grab-and-go pizza but didn’t look inside the box until he got home, but his wife said she was disgusted to find pepperonis carefully arranged in the shape of a backward swastika.
