Art has a way of bringing life to the world. Tucked away in Denver, Colorado, there are performers whose abilities and passion are unmatched. That place is Phamaly Theater Company. “This is a place where disability and just human difference is redefined,” says Regan Linton, artistic director of Phamaly Theatre. “It transforms the stories we tell, even though we are telling a lot of the same stories that other theatre companies do. We do it in a different way based off the identities of the people in our company.”Phamaly Theatre Company is a home for theatre artists with disabilities. “All the actors are exclusively actors with disabilities of all kinds,” Linton says. According to PTC website, it was founded in 1989 and created when five students from the Boettcher School in Denver, all living with disabilities, grew frustrated with the lack of theatrical opportunities for people living with disabilities. The group decided to create a theatre company that would provide individuals with disabilities the opportunity to perform. “Right now, we are rehearsing for ‘Chicago,’” says Kathleen Traylor, an actress and one of the co-founders of PTC. “Back then, they could figure out how to get a life-size elephant on the stage, but a wheel chair always baffled them.” Traylor was born with multiple deformities caused by something called amniotic band syndrome. Traylor performs in a wheel chair due to this condition.“I went to special education schools that was all disabled kids,” Traylor says. “In sixth grade, I was too young to audition for the theater. I watched the very second play that they ever did, and 10 minutes into the show and I forgot the entire cast was all disabled. I just thought I had to be part of that magic.”Phamaly Theatre Company has been around for 30 years. “We are changing the nature of how we think of disability – that it’s not a limitation,” Linton says. “It’s not a limiting experience. We gotta get over and sandbag’,” he said.Two houses down, Kenny and May Morris, with feet of water in their backyard, say their neighborhood crisis crew is the reason they’ve been able to keep a smile on their faces and push forward."We put out the little email or call in the morning, and before you know it, the street’s full of people and throwing sandbags,” Kenny Morris said. "It's really humbled us."“It makes tears come to your eyes to talk about it, to think about what’s gonna happen to a lot of good neighbors. and possibly us. And it’s already happened to five to six neighbors on the other end. An Italian policeman who was allegedly killed by two teenage American tourists was stabbed 11 times with a knife carried into Italy from the United States, according to police in Rome.Gen. Francesco Gargaro, of the Provincial Carabinieri Command, said the weapon was brought to the country by the 19-year-old suspect, Finnegan Lee Elder.Gargaro added that some of the wounds sustained by the fallen officer, Mario Cerciello Rega, were "very big, 17 centimeters (7 inches) deep, the length of the blade."Rega was killed Friday in Rome shortly after returning to work from his honeymoon. The 35-year-old was attempting to recover a backpack allegedly stolen by Elder and Gabriel Natale Hjorth, 18, after a botched drug deal, say officers. Police said that Elder confessed in the early hours of the interrogation on Friday to the killing.Meanwhile, Rega's funeral was held in his hometown of Somma Vesuviana, near Naples, on Monday. His casket was draped with the Italian flag as it was carried into the same church where he was married less than two months ago.Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, who has called for life prison sentences for the accused teens, attended the service.The officer's death has gripped Italy -- the story is leading many of its newspaper headlines -- and hundreds of people gathered outside the church to pay their respects.Botched dealThe incident unfolded after the two US citizens approached a man about buying drugs, according to police.
