SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — With California's theme parks and other family activities closed or restricted because of the pandemic, pumpkin patches have become an even more popular source of seasonal joy.The patches are able to operate under certain restrictions, though some operating rides may be at odds with public health orders.Cell phone video taken this week at The Pumpkin Station on Camino del Rio South in Mission Valley shows lots of visitors, some wearing masks and others not, and some small rides operating.The owner of the patch told ABC 10News they have a capacity limit of 250 people and require employees to undergo temperature checks and wear face masks. The owner said the location can't make customers wear face masks if they don't want to. As for the rides, the owner said calls to the San Diego County Health Department about whether rides are allowed were not returned. The owner said the rides are sanitized between each use as well.The county referred ABC 10News to California's guidelines for amusement and theme parks, which says all operations must be closed in the red and purple reopening tiers. San Diego County is currently in the red tier.As for other spots, like the Strawberry Fields in Carlsbad, there are no rides but there are inflatables.The owner of Carlsbad Lagoon tells ABC 10News that they've been working with the county ever since they reopened and that there are no specific guidelines for inflatables. The county says that as long as they are not completely closed, things like inflatables, slides, and obstacle courses are allowed.Carlsbad Lagoon added that they sanitize frequently and restrict admission to adhere to social distancing guidance. 1694

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Wednesday’s boycott by the Milwaukee Bucks of the team’s own NBA playoff game follows through on players’ promise to use their platform to demand change and social justice.Six years ago, players pressed league brass to take action against racism ignited by vulgar bigoted comments made by then-NBA team owner Donald Sterling.In 2014, the Los Angeles Clippers players were planning to walk off the floor during Game 5 of the Western Conference playoffs versus the Golden State Warriors. Players on both sides said they were frustrated over the league's soft punishment on Sterling and demanded the owner be banned.With pressure mounting for swift action, Adam Silver, the league's newly appointed commissioner, banned Sterling for life just three days after the scandal broke averting the boycott.Coincidentally, the Milwaukee Bucks staged Wednesday's boycott during Game 5 of the Eastern Conference playoffs.In a 10-minute audio clip posted by TMZ, Sterling chastised then-girlfriend V.Stiviano for posting pictures online of herself with African-Americans, including basketball Hall of Famer Earvin "Magic" Johnson.Sterling made the comments during an argument with Stiviano, who is part African-American."In your lousy f***ing Instagrams, you don't have to have yourself with -- walking with black people," he said in the audio clip."If it's white people, it's OK?" asked Stiviano, according to the recording. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Unions were the big winners as the San Diego Airport Authority decided to require contractors to enter into a project labor agreement in a 5-3 vote. PLA’s entail that unions will not strike and the airport will in turn run all the work through labor unions. Opposition to the PLA says they are worried the project will be even more costly to accommodate union dues and that non-union local workers will be excluded from the job. “It’s completely unfair,” said Steve Stroder, who represents” [they] are being told they can’t work on a project in San Diego.” Unions say their track record of completing marquee jobs on time like the county courthouse and under budget speaks for itself. “I mean we’ve proven that we can do this work,” said Keith Maddox of the San Diego Imperial Counties Labor Council, ”our workers are local.” The vote will be made after several hours of public testimony. 916

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) --  Authorities have identified the man who died after he and another man played a consensual "punching game" in a Gaslamp Quarter sports bar early Saturday morning.Corey Poole, 27, had apparently gone out drinking at the downtown sports bar with a group of friends. The group arrived at the Jolt’n Joe’s at 379 Fourth Avenue just before 1 a.m. Police say both men were drinking when they decided to have a punching contest.Police say that Poole and a friend began "consensually sparring" and punching each other in the chest.  During the game, Poole fell to the ground and became unresponsive, the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office said.Staff at the bar performed CPR on the 27-year-old who was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital where he died about an hour later."The decedent and a friend began consensual sparring, consisting of concurrently punching each other with closed fists on the chest," the Medical Examiner's Office said, describing what police had previously called "playing a punching game.""After receiving several punches to the chest, the decedent was struck and immediately collapsed and became unresponsive," the Medical Examiner's Office said.Officials are still working to determine whether Poole's death was an accident, a homicide or something else.Poole's friend, who remained at the location and was hospitalized for chest pain, was not arrested and it's unclear if charges against him will be filed. 1502

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection started Tuesday construction on its second border wall project along the U.S-Mexico border. The 14-mile long project consists of crews replacing existing barriers with new 30-foot tall steel bollards. The contract was awarded to Texas-based construction company SLSCO Ltd. The secondary wall project runs just north of the primary fence replacement project which started last summer. 446
