MIRAMAR, Calif. (KGTV) - The F-35C landed in Miramar Tuesday, the first of it's kind for the Department of Defense, according to officials at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.UPDATE: Officials later clarified the F-35C arriving at Miramar was the first for the Marine Corps. There are three versions of the F-35 Lightning II. The F-35C is the "carrier version", the largest of it's kind and able to land on an aircraft carrier's runway. The fighter jet is the most advanced in the military, "everything you look at is displayed in the helmet, I mean it's like in the movies," Squadron Commander Lt. Col. Cedar Hinton, USMC said.Hinton is the newest commander of the Black Knight Squadron at MCAS Miramar, who will inherit the incoming F-35Cs."This is an exciting time in the Black Knight history. This squadron was stood up in WWII like a lot of squadrons, this particular squadron's able to break a lot of milestones." He mentioned milestones that started in the 1950's with the F-9F Panther. That was the "Navy’s first successful carrier-based jet fighter" and landed with the Black Knights at Miramar. Then in the 1960's the squadron was the first in the Marine Corps to fly the F-4B Phantom. In the 1980's they were the first to fly the F/A-18.The F-35 got it's first test in combat in 2018, deploying to Afghanistan, and then in Iraq a year later."They've had some pretty good success with it, I mean it does what we paid for it to do," Lt. Col. Hinton said. It's record isn't pristine. The jet faced scrutiny when it suffered mechanical failures during development. In 2018, an F-35 crashed in South Carolina."I mean single engine airplane, but this engine is by far probably the most advance engine ever built... That engine is more reliable than two engines on an F-18 I'd say," Lt. Col. Hinton said.Miramar has been waiting for this moment since they retired the F/A-18 Hornet last June.Miramar will get another F-35C next week, and a third in March. The plan states the air station will get 75 jets over the next 10 years."We've got to start working the systems, we have to start integrating it with our software," Hinton said there's a lot of work to do to get the squadron up and running. He said they are working with a Naval squadron based in Lemoore. 2269
NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) - National City Treasurer Mitchel Beauchamp is facing multiple charges of animal cruelty Tuesday, including unlawfully trapping skunks and opossums.Court records obtained by 10News indicate the San Diego County District Attorney’s office believes Beauchamp maliciously and intentionally maimed, mutilated, tortured, wounded and killed an animal.Beauchamp told 10News he had a pest problem. He invited our crew into his yard to show us the humane trap he had been using. He also showed the crew where animals were moving from the canyon into his yard.According to County Animal Services, residents are allowed to relocate skunks and possums within a mile from their homes using a humane trap. Experts say the best way to keep pests out of your yard is to keep the area clean and don’t set out food. They recommend you hire a humane professional or learn to live with the animals.Beauchamp could be sentenced to up to one year in jail if convicted on all six counts. 1007

MISSOURI (KMOV) -- A state representative from western Missouri wants to ban porn access for everyone in the state unless you pay up.Representative Jim Neely (R-Cameron) says the idea behind his bill is simple: protecting kids. The bill says a distributor who makes or sells a product that is accessible to the internet, like a phone or a computer would be required to install a blocking software that would prevent the device from accessing obscene material.Neely says it would apply to all porn. A person could have the blocking software removed if they prove they are more 18-years-old and pays a deactivation fee. The money would go into a fund called the “Human Trafficking and Child Exploitation Prevention Fund.”When pressed on how the blocking software would work, Neely said it would be similar to how schools block students from websites, but when pressed he admitted, he wasn’t sure of the logistics.“I’m a physician, I don’t know computers,” said Neely in a phone interview.Cindy Wallace is the manager of Simple Pleasures Boutique in south St. Louis. They have a large adult video collection.“I just don’t see how they would be able to do it number one and number two, I think there are more things in every single state to worry about besides people watching porn,” said Wallace. The ACLU of Missouri said the bill adds an “unreliable and unconstitutional filter.”“While this legislation may seem like a way to make communities safer, it will cause more harm than good by censoring constitutionally protected speech and creating far-reaching, long-term consequences when it comes to Missourians’ privacy,” said Jeffrey Mittman, executive director, ACLU of Missouri“This bill will invade the privacy of Missourians who have not engaged in any criminal act.”The bill says if a distributor fails to block the prohibited sites, they could face a civil lawsuit.News 4 asked Attorney General Josh Hawley about the proposed legislation but he said he would have to read up on it.Nearly identical legislation was introduced in Alabama and Rhode Island. The bill has not yet gone to committee. 2112
