LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Chateau Marmont, a Hollywood hotspot for nearly a century, will be converted into a members-only hotel over the next year. The Los Angeles Times reports the owner plans to turn the 91-year-old building into a hotel where a select group of members buys into "a piece of a portfolio of the best real estate in the world." Members will own shares of the property and pay regular fees to cover management costs. In exchange, they'll get the use of a private dining area, a personal butler, and the freedom to leave their belongings and come and go during extended stays.According to the hotel, they are still taking reservations only by phone or email amid the coronavirus pandemic."During these challenging times, our Hotel remains open for the time being," the hotel stated on its website. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana and his wife confronted a home intruder who attempted to kidnap their grandchild over the weekend in California.According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Montana told deputies that his 9-month-old grandchild was sleeping in a playpen Saturday when an unknown woman entered their home in Malibu and grabbed the child.Montana and his wife, Jennifer, confronted the woman and asked her to give back their grandchild.After a tussle, law enforcement officials say Jennifer Montana pried the baby out of the woman's arms.The sheriff’s office says the woman, whom authorities identified as Sodsai Dalzell, fled the home but was later arrested. LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The California Highway Patrol Friday promised focused enforcement efforts during the New Year's holiday weekend.The CHP's Maximum Enforcement Period will start at 6:01 p.m. Friday and go through 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, when all available officers will be on duty, officials said.``Impairment of any kind while driving is illegal. Alcohol, cannabis or legal or illegal drugs can all affect your driving,'' CHP Commissioner Warren Stanley said. ``Impaired driving is a serious crime that can lead to an arrest, serious injury or death.''RELATED: California's repeat DUI offenders to use ignition interlocks in 2019The CHP promised to focus on impaired drivers but also watch for distracted driving, speeding and seat belt violations. LONDON — A woman was killed and at least four other people were injured when a 65-foot crane collapsed in east London, authorities say.The London Fire Brigade says the crane fell onto a block of apartments under development and two houses on Wednesday. The brigade says the deceased woman was found on the first floor of one of the houses and confirmed dead at the scene.The London Ambulance Service has confirmed that two people have been taken to hospital with head injuries and two others were treated at the scene.The brigade’s assistant commissioner, Graham Ellis, says urban search and rescue crews were undertaking “a complex rescue operation” and using specialized equipment to search the properties, including a drone to provide aerial imagery.Crews and a team of specialist paramedics who work in hazardous environments were also at the scene in the Bow neighborhood.
